Bullis School seeks a Lower School Co-Teacher for the 2026–27 academic year to partner with a Lower School homeroom teacher in supporting young learners within a caring, inclusive, and joyful classroom community. This educator will partner closely with a homeroom teacher to facilitate student learning and development throughout the school day. The Lower School Co-Teacher plays an integral role in classroom life, providing both instructional and logistical support to ensure that each child thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is ideal for an educator who finds joy in working with young learners and values collaboration as a cornerstone of effective teaching. This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Head of Lower School.
About the Role The Lower School Co-Teacher is immersed in all aspects of the school day — supporting classroom instruction, transitions, specials, lunch, recess, and other duties as needed. In partnership with the homeroom teacher, the Co-Teacher helps create and maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive learning environment where curiosity, creativity, and confidence flourish. The Co-Teacher works closely with students in one-on-one and small group settings, reinforcing lessons, listening to students read, guiding inquiry, and supporting skill development. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Co-Teacher assists with classroom organization, materials preparation, and daily routines that allow the homeroom teacher to focus on instruction and student growth.

Qualifications:Essential Functions
- Assist the homeroom teacher in organizing and maintaining a healthy, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students in the classroom, playgrounds, hallways, and on the field
- Assist with transitions to specials
- Lead one-on-one or small group instruction with students - listening while students read, reviewing or reinforcing class lessons, or helping them find information for assignments
- Prepare lesson materials, set up and operate audiovisual equipment, stock supplies, and keep the classroom clean, safe, and inviting
- Prepare and present displays of students' work/ bulletin boards as requested by the homeroom teacher
- Take over classroom duties when the homeroom teacher is out of the classroom
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
- Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance strategies to encourage appropriate behavior
Other Duties
- Supplemental duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and hallway monitor
- Attends school-wide, divisional, and departmental meetings
- Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Lower School

Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field
Preferred:
- Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment, including iPad integration
- Experience with a structured literacy program which includes phonics instruction, Writer’s Workshop and inquiry-based learning
Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated salary range of $55,000 to $65,000.
