What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach position at Bullis School?
The Bullis School Athletic Department is looking to hire a qualified Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach. Working closely with the Varsity Head Coach, this position helps foster a positive, competitive environment in alignment with Bullis School’s mission and values, while ensuring compliance with Independent School League (ISL) standards.
Schedule: Practices are held Monday through Friday, 3:30–6:00 PM. There are competitions on the weekends, but most games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week. We compete against teams from Maryland, Virginia, NY State, and DC.

Qualifications:
Essential Functions
• Assist in designing and implementing all aspects of the girls' basketball program for grades 9–12, including practice planning, game preparation, and skill development.
• Support communication with student-athletes regarding weekly schedules, early dismissals, and academic responsibilities.
• Attend all required coaching meetings before, during, and after the season.
• Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach to plan off-season training, clinics, and workouts within ISL regulations.
• Assist in managing program equipment, uniforms, and facility usage to ensure organization, cleanliness, and readiness.
• Maintain consistent communication with the Head Varsity Coach and Athletic Director(s), providing feedback and recommendations for program improvement.
• Perform any additional responsibilities related to the softball program as assigned by the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.
Experience
Required:
• Prior successful experience coaching basketball preferably at the high school or travel level
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor student-athletes
• Deep understanding of the sport, with a focus on skill development and strategic gameplay
• CPR/First Aid and concussion training certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Must be available for regular season and postseason play (November- March)
Preferred:
• Collegiate playing or coaching experience
• Experience coaching AAU Basketball
• Experience working in independent schools or with student-athletes in competitive academic environments
• Experience coaching or mentoring at the Upper School level
• Interest in being involved with the full program, including Middle School softball
This is a stipend position paid at the end of the season for $1, 900-$2,625.00
