Position Overview
We are seeking a Cost Control Accountant to support financial planning, cost tracking, and reporting for large-scale plant turnaround (TAR) projects. This role is responsible for providing real-time cost visibility, ensuring budget accuracy, and maintaining financial discipline across planning, execution, and closeout phases.
The position acts as a critical link between field operations and corporate finance, ensuring all project costs are accurately tracked, validated, and reported.
Education & Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
OR - Minimum 5 years of relevant cost control/financial experience
- Onsite role in Baton Rouge, LA
Top Must-Have Skills
- 5 years of cost control or financial analysis experience
- Proficiency in Google Suite applications
- Strong organizational and structured working approach
Preferred Skills & Tools
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
- Experience with SAP or Oracle
- Exposure to Primavera P6
- Background in industrial construction, maintenance, petrochemical, or refining environments
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Turnaround Planning
- Support TAR Manager in developing detailed cost estimates
- Build Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and cost coding system for tracking expenses
- Review vendor and contractor contracts, including labor rates and equipment rentals
2. Execution Phase (Live Cost Control)
- Track daily cost inputs (labor, equipment, materials) from contractors
- Monitor daily burn rate vs. baseline budget to identify variances early
- Prepare daily/weekly cost accruals for corporate finance reporting
- Evaluate change orders and validate cost impacts of scope changes
- Ensure proper authorization of all additional expenditures
3. Post-Turnaround Reporting
- Reconcile invoices against field-verified cost data
- Prepare final cost closeout report
- Conduct variance analysis explaining budget deviations
- Capture insights and benchmarks to improve future turnaround planning

- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
- High proficiency in Excel-based reporting and data validation
- Ability to operate under high-pressure, time-sensitive environments
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
