Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Billing and Collections Specialist to support the full revenue cycle. This individual will be responsible for ensuring accurate billing, timely collections, and excellent communication with patients regarding their accounts. This role offers strong potential for advancement into a leadership position as the team continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up on outstanding insurance and patient balances to ensure timely collections
- Respond to billing questions from patients via phone, email, and in person
- Submit claims to insurance carriers and monitor claim status
- Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable, including both insurance and patient accounts
- Enter and review charges for accuracy and proper coding
- Manage denied or underpaid claims, including corrections and resubmissions
- Assist patients with understanding statements and navigating self-pay submissions
- Track payment plans and ensure adherence to agreed-upon arrangements
- Sort incoming mail and documentation, including EOBs and correspondence
- Support deposit preparation and posting of incoming payments
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies or coding-related issues
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of the full revenue cycle, including billing and collections processes
- At least 2 years of experience in medical billing, AR, or collections
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy
- Experience working with multiple insurance payors
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable handling patient-facing financial discussions with professionalism and empathy
- Familiarity with self-pay and cash-based services is preferred
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, including debits and credits
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
