SUMMARY:

Performs tasks associated with that of a Forklift driver. Complies with all company safety rules and regulations. Demonstrates the ability to be a part of the production team by communicating and working within the parameters of the production department under the direction of the department supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes but is not limited to the following:

• Always operate the forklift in a safe manner and in accordance with company policy and regulations.
• Assure the correct tallies are on all shipments.
• Assure appropriate paperwork is completed.
• Keep the lumber shed and other areas organized, make every effort to ship the oldest stock first.
• Make sure any damaged or improperly packaged stock is not shipped.
• Stack units in a safe and organized manner. Do not stack any unsafe loads.
• Every effort must be made to help out and assist the other forklift drivers.
• Must have the ability to learn lumber calculations by volume and weight and to communicate those figures in writing.
• Ability to communicate with truck drivers to insure maximum weight possibility on trucks being loaded.
• Follow supervisors instruction as to proper product destination and due date.
• Ability to contact trucking dispatchers to schedule trucks.
• Able to work with lumber invoicing/shipping person on scheduling of trucks and paperwork for each shipment.
• To see that loading areas are kept clean of blocks, dunnage and other debris.
• Must keep a supply of dunnage available for trucker use.
• With the supervisor, plan and load all flatcars. Gather raw materials needed, assist the car loader in banding, nailing dunnage to car deck, side rail nailing, cutting steel banding improper lengths, and refilling the bander wheel when empty.
• Lock up all gates at the end of the shift.
• Help at the packaging dept. if needed.
• Work with other drivers to ensure a safe and efficient production flow.
• Report any accidents immediately to your supervisor.
• Back up in other departments as requested.
• Report any potential machinery defects immediately.
• Report any potential safety risks immediately.
• Downtime is clean-up and minor maintenance time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Communicate with co-workers and supervisor.

• Work with limited supervision
• Promote and support a strong safety culture.
• Must be willing to fill in on off shift and overtime when required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Previous forklift driving experience is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and write and the ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Prior forklift certification is required.
