ZincFive is Hiring a Technical Engineering Manager Near Tualatin, OR

The Technical Engineering Manager will be an integral part of the Engineering team, applying extensive power electronics and battery systems expertise to the development of battery backup systems, as well as other existing and future Nickel-Zinc battery applications. The successful candidate will manage and participate in the development of electrical architecture and design, the integration and debugging of new electrical hardware, and will lead and provide direction for the electrical and mechanical engineering teams. This position will work onsite at ZincFive headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon.


Technical Engineering Manager Job Duties:

  • Act as Principal Engineer for Power Electronics and BMS circuit design
    • Manage electrical requirements and specifications
    • Document the design architecture and formal design synthesis
    • Model and simulate performance of electrical circuits
    • Electrical schematic capture and Bill of Materials (BOM) maintenance
    • Component selection to meet requirements for uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems for industrial applications
    • Work closely with the mechanical engineering group to develop circuit designs to support required functionality and meet requirements for size, weight and power
    • Printed circuit board layout of manufacturability and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance
    • Participate and lead design reviews
    • Perform hardware design verification and validation testing
  • Manage electrical and mechanical engineering staff members
    • Provide technical direction and set performance expectations for the team
    • Establish technical standards in design, reviews and documentation
    • Establish and maintain expectations for technical excellence of the team, and guide continuous improvement
    • Mentor less experienced engineers and technicians
  • Support Applications team, particularly in technical assessment and screening of new ideas, applications, and opportunities
  • Provide expertise for early, proof-of-concept efforts
  • Oversee Engineering Lab organization, work efficiency and safety
  • Actively support growth of an exceptional engineering team
  • Support expansion of IP and patent portfolio


Job Requirements:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer license
  • 15 years of experience with power electronics, board-level circuit design and simulation, and analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience working with voltages up to 600Vdc
  • Experience designing and debugging systems with microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of serial communications protocols and hardware interfaces, including I2C and CAN
  • Expertise with Altium Designer Suite
  • Extensive knowledge of PCB design of complex multi-layer circuit boards
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver on-time in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as needed

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS)
  • Prior experience with NiZn-based battery systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work involves sitting, walking, and lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Domestic and international travel by car, airplane, bus & train
  • Requires close visual acuity, the ability to distinguish color, and the ability to hear in
  • Warehouse, lab, and office environments


Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role.
