Job Summary: Monarch Tractor, an autonomous electric tractor company based in Livermore, California, seeks a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to join our team. As the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will lead and manage the electrical engineering department, mentor and grow junior level engineers, and provide technical expertise across all electrical engineering projects. This role involves working with the team one-on-one, planning and recruiting for the department, maintaining a high bar for department technical output, and solving the hardest electrical engineering challenges Monarch encounters. Some limited travel may be required for customer visits or other business needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the electrical engineering department while providing technical guidance and expertise to the team.
• Mentor and train junior level engineers, providing support in their professional development and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to provide feedback, address concerns, and provide career guidance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineering, software engineering, and product management, to ensure successful project execution.
• Participate in departmental planning efforts, including resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling, to ensure successful project delivery and meet business objectives.
• Lead recruitment efforts for the electrical engineering department, including sourcing, interviewing, and hiring top talent.
• Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components for electric tractors.
• Review and approve electrical engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, wire harness designs, test plans, and system specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Engage in deep technical work, such as designing and implementing electrical systems and components, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and conducting tests and evaluations.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in electrical engineering technology, industry trends, and emerging technologies, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Strong electrical engineering background with at least 8-12 years of relevant experience, preferably in a start-up company or similar environment.
• Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior level engineers, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex electrical systems and provide innovative solutions.
• Proficient in electrical engineering tools and software, such as ECAD software (e.g. Altium), simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink), and testing equipment (e.g. CANalyzer, oscilloscopes, frequency analyzers).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects concurrently, with a results-oriented mindset.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire team members and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Experience in planning and resource allocation for departmental projects, and ability to make data-driven decisions to meet business objectives.
• Experience with Wiring Harness design and dealing with harness vendors.
• Experience with circuit design and PCB layout.
• Experience with large electrical system design and architecture.
• Willingness to go out into the field or onto the production floor to resolve issues and gain insights (may involve occasional limited travel).
• Knowledge of electric vehicle technologies, power electronics, and high voltage battery systems and safety is a plus.
• Knowledge of high-speed digital PCB design, high speed digital interfaces (e.g. Gigabit Ethernet, MIPI-CSI, SerDes), camera interfaces, and CPU/GPU integration is a plus.
