About the Role:

  • We’re looking for a hands-on leader, who can get into the details, learn all aspects of how to make soap and earn the respect of the production team. Our Production Managers play a vital role in crafting an exceptional customer experience, central to our ethos of customer obsession, relentless innovation, and lean manufacturing principles. In this dynamic and multifaceted position, you will balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution. As a Production Manager, you oversee various aspects of operations, including team management and development, process optimization, and consistently exceeding customer expectations.
  • The Production Manager will work closely with the Plant Director, collaborating extensively across functions to ensure overall plant production goals are met. This includes oversight of Warehouse and Packaging operations, Quality Control, Maintenance, and partnering with the People & Culture, Environmental Health & Safety, R&D, and the Supply Chain teams.
  • In your leadership role, you will guide and motivate a diverse team of exempt Production Supervisors and non-exempt Production Team Leads and Associates toward achieving operational excellence. Applying lean methodologies, you'll streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and minimize waste, contributing to our status as a high-growth organization. Your focus will be on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, enhancing employee engagement through effective coaching and mentoring, and developing a strong leadership bench. Your role is critical in promoting an innovative mindset within the team, spurring creative solutions and forward-thinking strategies to maintain our competitive edge in the rapidly evolving industry.
  • This role will report to the Plant Director
  • This is a full-time role with company benefits based in Brea, CA.
  • The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $90,000 to $125,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and local market rates.

What You'll Do:
Safety and Security:

  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure compliance with all risk and safety regulations.
  • Influence key safety priorities and cultivate a strong safety culture within the team.
  • Identify hazards and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement effective resolutions.
  • Enhance standard work processes and evaluate ergonomic conditions for improved efficiency.
  • Enforce building security and product loss prevention procedures.

Production Leadership:

  • Directly supervise and provide leadership to multiple production teams, overseeing soap making, cutting, compounding, blending, sanitation, beard oil/cologne, and deodorant production.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to enhance team performance, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of excellence within teams, promoting collaboration and accountability.
  • Play a key role on the plant leadership team to ensure coordination among different production units.
  • Lead leaders across all shifts, providing guidance and support to Production Supervisors and Team Leads.
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
  • Develop comprehensive training plans to maintain high-quality standards and minimize disruption.
  • Play a key role in building out the production team, overseeing the recruitment and development of production associates, leads, supervisors, etc.

Operational Excellence:

  • Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize manufacturing processes and elevate productivity.
  • Take ownership of the department labor budget, managing labor utilization, overtime, material cost variances, and new product costing.
  • Scrutinize key production metrics, identify areas for improvement, and spearhead initiatives to enhance overall plant performance.
  • Balance cost-effective measures with maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Manage operational excellence across all shifts, ensuring consistency in performance.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, identifying and mitigating potential quality risks.
  • Oversee the accurate recording and auditing of employee hours, ensuring compliance with labor laws.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration:

  • Shape the strategic direction of the manufacturing facility as the second most senior figure in operations.
  • Engage in strategic level/long-term planning, forecasting labor needs, and planning for peak seasons.
  • Collaborate closely with corporate partners and internal departments for new product development, facility improvements, and capital projects.
  • Align operational goals with broader business objectives to ensure sustained success.
  • Coordinate strategic initiatives across all shifts for seamless integration.
  • Work closely with support staff (HR, Finance, Maintenance Engineering, Safety, IT, and other leaders) to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives.

Team Development and Management:

  • Proactively lead team development by spearheading associate recognition, succession, and training programs.
  • Take responsibility for recruitment, coaching, performance management, and development planning of Production Supervisors, Team Leads, and hourly/exempt
  • Contribute to the growth and effectiveness of production teams through team-building initiatives and ongoing coaching.
  • Manage leadership development programs for Production Supervisors and Team Leads.
  • Participate in recruiting to identify and evaluate associates and internal/external candidates for promotion and hire.

Performance Management:

  • Establish clear expectations for the department and foster a culture of accountability for up to 150 exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Measures performance, provides feedback, holds leaders accountable, and schedules and conducts both annual and periodic performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Collaborate with employees to set realistic goals and foster an open dialogue during reviews.
  • Ensure fairness and consistency in performance evaluations, adhering to organizational guidelines.
  • Serve as the primary information source for the team, effectively communicating policies and ensuring compliance.
  • Proactively address any policy issues and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Employee Engagement:
  • Collaborate with People & Culture to develop and support innovative recognition programs, enhancing the workplace environment.
  • Foster a positive work environment through clear communication and recognition programs.
  • Lead initiatives to maintain consistent employee engagement levels across all shifts.

About You:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required (e.g., Management, Business Administration, Production/Operations Management, Engineering, Supply Chain).
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Cosmetics, Personal Care, Food & Beverage, or a related industry.
5 years of experience in a supervisory/management role in a manufacturing environment, involving the evaluation, mentoring, and development of production teams; managing workloads; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees across multiple functions.

  • Capable of balancing short-term tactical priorities with a long-term strategic mindset.
  • Strong analytical leader who leverages data to drive business decisions, achieve business objectives, and continuously improve operations.
  • Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills, demonstrating the ability to influence across various business areas and external partners.
  • Proficient in using and teaching basic problem-solving techniques to efficiently resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated excellence in using Excel or GSheets for planning, performance tracking, KPI development and reporting, and documentation of manufacturing processes.
  • Fast-paced learner, adept problem-solver, and self-starter, comfortable thriving in a rapidly changing startup environment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
