Description

YWCA Tulsa is seeking a full-time Law Clerk to assist legal team members provide legal representation and advocacy on a variety of legal immigration matters for Afghan Parolees including but not limited to: Special Immigrant Visas, Family-Based Petitions, Asylum, Adjustment of Status applications, and related types of cases. The law clerk will work under the supervision of the Director of Legal Services and staff attorneys. 

Requirements

  • Assist attorneys and legal representatives provide direct legal representation to clients in obtaining immigration status or benefits before USCIS and EOIR, with a focus on Special Immigrant Visas, Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Parole, adjustment of status applications, and related types of cases. 
  • Responsible for immigration database maintenance, documentation and record keeping of Program client cases and other agency reporting requirements. Also responsible for administrative tasks for cases including filing, copying, data entry, preparing mailing, assisting with mail processing, reception desk coverage and opening and closing cases. 
  • Assist with outreach, community education, and collaborating with community partners to advance and improve services for clients. 
  • Coordinate and communicate with the case management team to identify potential legal needs. 
  • Collaborate with other YWCA Tulsa programs as appropriate to ensure integrated, client-centered service. 
  • Complies with all YWCA policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Good organization skills and ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent decision-making skills. 
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Experience with immigration case management systems preferred. 
  • Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of the YWCA Tulsa. 
  • Work effectively with all employees and members of all races, religions, sexes, national origins, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions; and without regard to disability status, genetic information, marital status, or status as a covered veteran. 
  • Work on skills that can help communicate her/his point to an audience belonging to a completely different identity and/or background. These differences can be identity-based, geographical, ethical, political, or historical 
  • Strong commitment to learning, growth, and continuous improvement. 
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and insurance verification and ability to travel locally and nonlocally. 

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of a U.S. based law school. 
  • Relevant immigration law experience related to refugees, asylees, and/or Special Immigrant Visas. or law school clinic experience preferred. 
  • Experience working with diverse communities. 
  • Fluency or proficiency in English and a second language (preferably Dari and/or Pashto) preferred.

Pay: $35,000 - $45,000 / year
