YSS is seeking a talented, dedicated, well-rounded Facilities Technician to join our team!. This position plays a key role in maintaining the physical foundation on which YSS carries out its' mission of putting kids first.
The Facilities Technician will be responsible for responding to approved work orders involving general repairs and maintenance of the YSS facilities, furnishings, and equipment; completing work orders and preventative maintenance work in a timely fashion; and assisting the Facilities Director with coordinating work performed by facilities staff and contractors. Other responsibilities include:
- Opening and closing office buildings as assigned
- Meeting daily with Facilities Director and staff to coordinate activities
- Utilizing work order ticketing system and facility management system
- Traveling and providing services to outreach operations
- Using power equipment and miscellaneous tools.
- Conducting day to day maintenance operations of assigned buildings and parking lots
- Supporting preventive maintenance and seasonal readiness programs for all locations
- Answering emergency calls evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned by Director
- Assisting Director with quarterly building reports
- Managing inventory on a quarterly basis and discard non-repairable items
- Informing Director of inventory numbers that are discarded or moved
- Purchasing approved supplies/materials as required
- Submitting charge receipts with check request form in a timely fashion
- Coordinating, communicating with, and supervising vendors/contractors/staff as assigned by Director
- Assisting with bid-process: collecting bids, meeting vendors, touring locations, and providing background information.
- Reviewing and updating procedure manual (as requested by Director)
- Assisting with city and state inspections

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years trade experience to include carpentry, construction, facility repairs and maintenance, and custodial.
- Multiple other trade experience, including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.
- Ability to perform all aspects of maintenance and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/equivalent.
- Customer focused and able to coordinate / collaborate with others.
- Ability to use critical thinking skills to problems solve.
- Ability to manage resources effectively
The IDEAL Candidate
- Ability to convey information effectively through speech and writing skills
- Experience with work order / ticketing systems
- Understanding of OSHA regulations
- Trade certifications
- High School diploma
- A minimum of two years of directly-related, full-time experience in the human services field.
- At least 21 years old with a valid driver's license to meet requirements to drive agency vehicles.
- Knowledge of the needs of youth experiencing housing instability and the interventions available to address these needs.
- Basic computer skills including data entry and use of Microsoft Office products.

1. Application - All applicants are required to complete an online application. The application is considered complete when all questions have been answered, all required documents (resume, waivers) have been submitted, and the application has been electronically signed.
2. Assessment – As they are received, applications are reviewed for education, experience, and licensure (if required). If the required qualifications are not met, the application will likely be declined.
3. Interview – Depending on the number of applications received, we may choose to do initial phone interviews. Otherwise, we will move directly to in-person or Zoom interviews.
4. References – Applicants moving forward after their interview are asked to submit three references, which YSS then contacts.
5. Pre-employment Screening – Applicants are required to submit background check waiver forms at the time they apply. YSS conducts a Single Contact Repository (SING) background check on all final candidates. All offers of employment at YSS are contingent upon clear results of the SING. The SING provides authorized organizations online access to Iowa Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry information held by the Department of Public Safety/Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Department of Human Services (DHS) Central Abuse Registry for Child Abuse (CA) and Dependent Adult Abuse (DAA), as well as Professional License information. YSS also requires a clean driving record for positions that provide transport. Verification will be done through the records of the state that issued the individual’s current license.
