YSS is Hiring a Development Specialist Near Ames, IA

The Development Specialist will help to ensure the organization’s donor database is up-to-date and gifts are recognized in a timely manner. The successful candidate will be able to create reports using input from other members of the Community Engagement Team, while also using his/her critical thinking skills to analyze the data and identify giving trends.
This position will play a key role in supporting the organization’s philanthropic agenda by serving as the point-person for the input, tracking and reporting of donor activity in the donor database system. Additionally, the Development Assistant serves as the agency-wide donor stewardship coordinator, ensuring all gifts are appropriately recognized and donor intent is operationalized.

What You Will Do
  • Administers the YSS donor database, including entry of donations
  • Ensures the appropriate stewardship of donations and the compliance of appropriate agency obligations to deliverables
  • Oversees and coordinates training and use of database by other agency users
  • Provides administrative support to the Community Engagement Team, including arranging meetings, travel arrangements and undertaking any other tasks as may be deemed reasonable and appropriate
  • Conducts and maintains research on prospective donors; uses this information to provide briefings, as required
  • Maintains current knowledge of national trends in donor behavior and data mining techniques
  • Serves as YSS’ point of contact with the donor database system) and makes agency requests for support
  • Develops and maintains additional donor database information as requested
  • Coordinates with Community Engagement Team and community-based centers on additional donor database needs, etc.
  • Collects and maintains information for organization and development officer performance measures
  • Ensures that all donations are consistently acknowledged across all YSS programs
  • Processes thank you letters for all donations including in-kind contributions
  • Processes monthly reminder notices for all outstanding pledges
  • Maintains all records of planned gifts and bequests from donors
  • Prepares all donation reports, as requested
  • Reconciles campaign, Friends/donor reports monthly with the Fiscal Department
  • Provides lists of donors for agency publications and mailings, as requested
  • Authors letters, documents, tables and forms, as needed
  • Supports the preparation and sending of mass email
What You Will Need
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public relations, philanthropic studies or related field.
  • Three years of experience in working with donor databases, development, marketing or similar fields is required. Attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills and basic computer skills necessary.
  • Experience with software used in performing duties of the job (Blackbaud, Raiser’s Edge) is a plus.
