Youth Progress Association is Hiring a Youth Engagement Coach Near Portland, OR

JOB TITLE: Engagement Coach - Learning Center
DEPARTMENT: Learning Center
BRS DESIGNATION: Direct Care Staff
REPORTS TO: Learning Center Program Manager
SUMMARY:
Youth Progress seeks a collaborative and trauma-informed Engagement Coach to join our team. The person who accepts this position is responsible for providing milieu enrichment and engagement for clients receiving services in the CCAP program on a daily basis. This person will work closely with the Career Trainer in addition to facilitating all enrichment and recreational activities to all Learning Center young people. Enrichment activities with the young people include but are not limited to art, sports, and social recreation. Coaches set the tone for young people in the milieu, leading by example and guiding young people through enrichment activities that teach life skills and encourage healthy and safe behaviors and engagement.
Job Responsibilities:
Individualized Engagement & Supervision:
  • Help young people regulate their emotions proactively and identify when to provide additional support.
  • Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on-site and in the community as required.
Milieu Enrichment & Engagement:
  • Create daily opportunities for young people to participate in recreational and prosocial activities.
  • Develop the term-by-term recreational and engagement activities/curriculum, including onsite and offsite events.
  • Be a cultural leader by maintaining a calm, positive, and professional presence.
  • Help young persons regulate their emotions proactively and identify when to provide additional support. Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on site and in the community as required.
  • Plan and staff break week ahead of time with clients and team
  • Engage youth in the program and create a restorative and safe community environment. Create and maintain a safe, supportive and structured culture in the homeroom.
Staff Guidance & Support:
  • Proactively support staff by providing effective input on young people’s behavior management.
  • Offers insights and guidance on young persons' dynamics and interactions in the program and within the community.
  • Care coordination with internal and external teams to ensure young people are supported effectively.
  • Coordination with internal and external teams to determine need for 1:1 contracts
  • Consult with Youth Advocate to report on progress in treatment goals.
Assessment & Advocacy:
  • Assessing the young people's program activities, environments, and conditions; documenting and reporting findings to their internal and external teams.
  • Engage in mentoring activities and assess the young person's progress toward the fulfillment of identified goals and objectives.
  • Professionally engages with foster parents and guardians to provide pertinent program information and share their young person’s experience and progress.
Documentation & Evaluation:
  • Complete required documentation & communication efficiently.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Document BRS hours for each young person in homeroom
Compliance:
  • Complete and monitor daily logs for each young person in the program who has a 1:1 contract.
  • Daily logs consist of significant interactions with staff, peers, employers, and school personnel, as well as special appointments and family/PO meetings. Etc.
  • Complete accurate and timely tracking of BRS support plans, BRS notes, and 1:1 logs.
External Relationships:
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with volunteers and community resources and ensure strong and consistent communication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations involved in ensuring high-quality services to our young people.
  • Represent Youth Progress at relevant external meetings.
Other Duties:
  • Ensures the milieu is clean and safe and the equipment is set up and stored properly.
  • Support other program functions as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Desired Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred
  • Impeccable integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for Youth Progress’ mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a team of professionals.
  • Ability to thrive as a team player, and communicate effectively with peers, young people, foster parent, and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.
Required
  • Social work, or social services, or 2 years experience in direct services working with system-involved young people.
  • Must be results-oriented and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and be well organized.
  • Demonstrated experience in a team-based work environment.
  • Experience facilitating training.
  • Current driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Full Time: Yes, Hourly
  • On-Call: No
  • Hours: Typically 9a-5:30p, M-F. Some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Co-workers: The person in this position will report to The LC Manager and also closely with the LC Team and across the organization to ensure the organization's success. As an agency, we’re creative, open-minded, and deeply committed to the success of young people in our programs.
