I. POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and case management services to the Behavioral Health program participants and their families under the supervision of a Behavioral Health Professional. The Behavioral Health Technician may also provide additional rehabilitative services, such as Skills Training and Development and Family Support. Services may be provided in the participant’s home or appropriate community setting. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for accurately documenting services, attending weekly group and individual supervision, and communicating participant progress to supervisors, team members, and the referring authority. All services are delivered in compliance with the Arizona Medicaid manual, managed care standards, and YAP standards, and all state and federal regulations governing the delivery of service.

II. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Minimum High School diploma, GED, or Associates degree is required and 4 years prior experience in a related field; or Bachelor’s or Masters from an accredited university or college with a major in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or a related human services field as defined by Arizona Administrative Code.

SPECIAL TRAINING/SKILLS (Licenses and Certifications):

- State/Federal Mandated Clearances and criminal background checks

- Valid Driver’s License

- Minimum insurance bodily injury liability coverage of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident

Problem Solving Skills

- Investigates and provides root cause analysis of problems, suggests alternatives, evaluates outcomes, and makes formal recommendations for solutions.

Communication Skills

- Consistently uses good listening skills to remain informed and acts upon or acknowledges receipt of information.

- Provides well-organized and clearly written information.

Math Skills

- Performs accurate basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Computer Knowledge

- Word Processing Software

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS TYPICAL OF THIS POSITION:

Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, utilize creativity, maintain a high level of decision-making, ability to adapt to a constantly changing work environment, maintain a high level of record keeping/routine paperwork, provide close attention to detail, ability to travel, ability to work under pressure for results, establish own goals, meet frequent deadlines, work in a closely supervised environment, and work closely with others.

III. JOB RELATIONSHIPS

RESPONSIBLE TO: Typically reports to Clinical Supervisor and Program Director

WORKERS SUPERVISED: Typically does not supervise any other staff

IV. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (list functions that can be measured)

1. Program and Fiscal Management: Assist program leadership in management of programs and client services by working authorized hours and following all processes that impact the fiscal success of the program.

a. Conduct assessments as clinically indicated

b. Maintain the appropriate service hours via face-to-face contact as specified by the Individualized Treatment Plan

c. Assist in the development of the Individualized Treatment Plan

d. Maintain awareness of utilization of approved service units to avoid overutilization

e. Meet weekly direct service expectations based upon caseload size and units approved

f. Ensure that services provided are related to the goals and objectives on the youth’s Individualized Treatment Plan

g. Utilize activity fees appropriately and within specified limits

2. Outcomes: Submits all required reports in a clear and legible manner to program leadership within the required timeframe.

a. Prepare written communications including discharge reports as requested

b. Complete Outcomes Measurement System (OMS) Entry/Discharge forms as requested

c. Provide quality services to youth and families at the levels specified to promote good outcomes

Documentation: Ensure that programs are in compliance with federal, state, local and YAP documentation requirements.

Accurately complete all intake paperwork as requested and ensure paperwork is up-to-date

Accurately complete all weekly documentation, such as Progress Notes, Non-Billable Timesheets, and other required documents, on paper or via Evolv as appropriate

Submit other documentation as required by the program

Documentation is clear, accurate, and written in compliance with Medicaid and YAP standards

Documentation is submitted to program leadership at the designated time and place

Community Connections and System Change: Promote YAP as a needed, valued and credible resource in the community.

Involve the appropriate community professional resources as determined by the client’s individual needs and the service plan

Connect youth and families with the appropriate community supports based on their needs, strengths, and interests

Help youth and families repair and strengthen relationships with people, organizations, or systems within their community through advocacy, modeling, coaching, and negotiating

Individualized Service Planning: Ensure Individualized Plans of Care are implemented as written through weekly purposeful activities with youth and families.

Assist with the development of the Individualized Treatment Plan as requesting through helping to assess the needs, strengths, and interests of assigned youth and families

Communicate with appropriate individuals regarding the youth

Develop a supportive, positive relationship with each assigned youth and family

Educate youth and families regarding the Behavioral Health Program, and other available community supports, and advocate for their needs and interests

Ensure that parents know the whereabouts of their children while they are participating in program activities

Implement services and supports that assist the youth and family in achieving the goals and objectives on their Individualized Treatment Plan

Ensure that activities coincide with the needs, interests, and desires of the youth and family as defined by the Individualized Treatment Plan. Be prepared to identify the family’s changing needs and interests as the advocacy relationship progresses

Assist each client and family in identifying resources or persons who can provide continued support beyond termination of services and develop linkages to those community resources and persons

Respond to emergency situations or special incidents by involving the client or client’s family as the need arises

Staff Activities: Attend and participate in staff related programs or activities and staff meetings.

a. Attend weekly supervision sessions, including individual and group supervision

b. Attend monthly YAP staff meetings

c. Participate in other program activities as requested

Training/Computer Skills: Ensure all internal and external training is completed in a timely manner.

Meet the minimum training requirements set by the agency, state, and/or local government

Complete YAP’s Basic Advocacy Training and other required trainings within defined timelines

Attend other ongoing training as required or by interest and within adherence to YAP’s policies under the guidance and direction of leadership

8. Supervision: Ensure there is a face to face meeting on a weekly basis with program leadership that addresses both clinical and administrative elements of the work and builds an atmosphere of accountability and engagement.

a. Participate in group and individual supervision

b. Participate in review of each youth’s service plan and progress as needed

Other Essential Functions of the job but not limited to:

A. Follow YAP, Inc.’s special incidents reporting procedures and provide the Program Director with information on potential issues of safety and ethical/confidentiality dilemmas.

B. Adhere to all YAP, Inc. personnel policies, the YAP, Inc. Code of Conduct and the Integrity Compliance Plan.

C. Abide by YAP philosophies, including but not limited to delivering services in a culturally competent and trauma-informed manner.

D. Perform all duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.

E. Maintain professional boundaries with all clients in accordance with good clinical judgment and YAP Code of Conduct.

F. Perform other related duties as assigned by program leadership
