Job Description

The Greater Somerset County YMCA is looking for a Vice President of Marketing & Communications who will oversee the creation and implementation of all marketing strategies for the association. This person is responsible for building and maintaining the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through the development of effective, yet diverse marketing/communications strategies. This individual will work directly with executive leadership across the association.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in related field (Marketing, Communications, or Business) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Minimum of five (5) or more years of progressive marketing and communication experience with proven record of successful design and implementation of marketing strategies.

3. Nonprofit experience a plus.

4. Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships.

5. Direct experience working with social media, traditional and digital advertising and website media.

6. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.

7. Multi-Team Leader certification or able to obtain within 3 years of hire.

Essential Functions

1. Create, implement, and manage a comprehensive development, marketing, and communication strategy to advance the association’s core business, contributed and earned income revenue goals, while enhancing the YMCA’s brand and position within the marketplace.

2. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within marketing and communication strategies, ensuring representation and sensitivity in all content and outreach efforts, while actively seeking opportunities to promote diversity and inclusivity in messaging and campaigns.

3. Ensure all marketing strategies are consistent with the Y’s brand and voice.

4. Develop and oversee marketing/communication materials including direct mail, advertising, press releases, social media, campaign literature and support material, annual reports, videos, website and digital marketing collateral.

5. Support a team approach to coordinated, creative and strategic communications that advance the organizational objectives that expand the Y’s visibility and mission to the community.

6. Provide learning tools & creative direction and support for all program staff.

7. Build a culture of storytelling among employees and volunteers that effectively supports and communicates the Y’s impact in our community.

8. Provides oversight to branches and departments regarding brand integrity, public relations, marketing, graphic design and special events. Ensures consistency and professionalism in all print materials, marketing materials, and digital marketing communications.

9. Develops and coordinates key messaging to enhance the organization’s image and reputation.

10. Prepares, scripts and coaches President/CEO and other key leaders on internal/external communications.

11. Develops and implements a social media strategy in support of advancing the Y’s mission and cause.

12. Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.

13. In conjunction with the COO/CFO, develops an annual marketing budget and sales plan to support association needs.

14. Demonstrates an ability to successfully plan, organize, implement, document, monitor projects, meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities and circumstances.

15. Works and communicates with a diverse array of leaders from across the association and facilitates the collaboration of varying skill sets.

16. Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises assigned staff. Provides development and leadership.
