POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director, the Pool Manager will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of the pool operation. The Pool Manager will also be responsible for the operation of the pool and ensure staff are actively guarding and the pool is operating within the set guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.
2. Arrive at work on time and prepared.
3. Give leadership and supervision of the lifeguard staff, gate staff, maintenance staff, and grounds crew, including scheduling of these staff.
4. Perform safety checks of equipment, including first aid kits, phones, rescue tubes, and pool equipment.
5. Enforce all pool rules in a firm, but tactful manner and ensure all staff are well-equipped and knowledgeable of rules to be able to enforce them.
6. Communicate and implement YMCA Aquatic Safety policies, practices and guidelines.
7. Ensure all drills and in-services required per the Aquatic Safety Plan are scheduled and delivered with attendance and results being recorded.
8. Work with lifeguards as a team player, giving direction and displaying leadership qualities, ensuring all guards are actively scanning and patrolling their assigned sections. Provide breaks for guards as needed and scheduled to ensure the pool is always in guarding ratio.
9. Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.
10. Ensure your personal protective (rescue breather, gloves, fanny pack) is all in good working order and accessible per safety standards as well as ensuring all guards on deck have their PPE in order.
11. Have a complete understanding of, and be familiar with, all emergency procedures, buzzers, buttons and YMCA standards, operations and protocols.
12. Ensure security of the pool when leaving the pool area – no pool is ever left unguarded for any reason, at any time. Pool and pool deck must be vacated by all when guard must leave pool area.
13. React immediately to signs of individuals in distress.
14. Administer first aid to victims using OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Universal Precautions. Provide immediate care to sustain life until EMS arrives.
15. Complete all incident reports and save those reports at time of incident, including all pertinent information. Reports must be legible and state the facts as witnessed by the guard.
16. Maintain all aquatic standards and rules. Ensure no distractions or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.
17. Adherence to all bathing code regulations, standards, and safety measures.
18. Must keep all certifications current and have the ability to provide documentation of certifications at all times when requested.
19. Assist with the planning and scheduling of outside agencies for pool use (i.e. camps, child care, rentals)
20. Wear proper YMCA professional appearance policy attire as well as have all proper safety equipment (whistle, tube, fanny pack, etc.) on persons at all time.
21. Participate as part of the Aquatic Team in providing a safe and enjoyable, member friendly environment.
22. Respect coworkers by arriving on time and in accordance with scheduled hours.
23. Monitor and assist in cleanliness of the pool and pool deck.
24. Prepare necessary reports when needed.
25. Attend mandatory meetings as required.
26. Keep the Camp Director and/or Director of Operations apprised of activities, situations or problems in the pool area.
REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sufficient strength and skilled technique to control and rescue struggling adult swimmers, lifting, standing, reaching, kneeling, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, concentration, attention and focus to one area for extended periods of time, warm to hot weather outdoor work, average to warm in-door and out-door pool heat and humidity, ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
