Position Summary:

The Media Specialist will maintain a diverse and current media collection (electronic and print) and facilitate student and staff use of the resources in the media center.

Essential Functions:

1. Coordinates audio-visual equipment and print materials.
2. Inventories and maintains supplies and equipment.
3. Checks out and maintains a database of books.
4. Introduces students to new and diverse literature.
5. Sets up and operates requested software and machines, such as Power Point presentations, DVD players, and film projectors.
6. Updates and maintains a library of available materials including books, magazines, and other printed media.
7. Helps teachers and staff find specific materials or programs to enhance their lesson plans.
8. Photographs for various projects.
9. Meets weekly with small groups of students.

10. Supports K-5 teachers in the area of reading and literacy, including pushing in to the classroom for instruction with small groups and whole class.

11. Works with other school resource teachers (art, music, P.E.) to create an enriching and diverse resource experience for students.

12. Takes on additional school-based responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in education or library sciences with a focus on media or a comparable field (with a GPA of 3.0 or higher).
2. Minimum of one year of professional experience working in a school environment.
3. Media endorsement from the Florida Department of Education preferred.
4. Basic knowledge of HTML, content management systems and various social media outlets.
5. Experience with printers, media equipment, and various computer programs.
