Under the supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the watersports instructor will be responsible for providing a quality experience to campers and participants focused on the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility utilizing our lakefront.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide an outstanding, safe, and educational experience to students on land and on the water
• Explain and demonstrate proper wakeboarding, waterskiing, and wakesurfing techniques
• Supervise and ensure the safety of students and staff
• Monitor changing weather and water traffic conditions and make appropriate decisions to ensure safety of students, staff, and other water users
• Maintain records
• Inspect equipment before and after class and clean equipment after use
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Extensive technical knowledge of wakeboarding, waterskiing, and/or wakesurfing

• Current status in the following certifications OR ability to obtain upon hire:
  • Professional Level CPR
  • First Aid
  • Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Oxygen Administration

• Must have good interpersonal skills and a desire to help others improve their riding abilities
• Priority will be given to applicants who are available to work the entire summer
• Flexibility and willingness to work long hours including weekends
• Be dependable, be consistent, and be able to work in a group setting
• Make decisions and be confident in your abilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA or Red Cross)
• Obtain NC Boat Driver Certificate or hold Captain’s License
• Prior teaching/instructing experience
