Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Waterfront Boat Driver will operate boating equipment as a means of transportation for participants and members during assigned waterfront activities. The Waterfront Boat Driver will maintain the safety of campers and staff and ensure the program is run efficiently through detailed supervision and objective decision making.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Safely operate motorized watercraft for all assigned activities and programming, remaining attentive and vigilant at all times.
• Safeguard the lives of participants, staff and other members or guests in boating areas.
• Be alert to program safety factors and potential hazards; report any problems or hazards to the Aquatics Director or applicable branch leadership.
• Uphold all applicable rules and regulations in courteous but firm manner.
• Assist in maintenance and upkeep of boat fleet including cleaning, security and end of season storage.
• Secure boats by locking them to the dock when not in use.
• Assure that each camper or participant has a pleasant experience and their goals are adequately met with skills development and progressive curriculum.
• Ensure activities and programs are delivered to all guests in a safe and fun environment.
• Implement Character Development Traits in daily activities.
• Provide an enjoyable experience for each camp participant and member.
• Set a good example in respect and care for facilities, woods and out-of-doors program areas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• One year experience with boat driving and general water safety procedure
• Valid State of North Carolina License.
• Valid State of North Carolina Boat License.
• YMCA Lifeguard Certification American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification OR ability to obtain upon hire
• Current status in the following certifications OR ability to obtain upon hire, to be renewed annually: first aid, CPR, AED.
• Evidence of emotional maturity, good moral character, judgment, integrity, and leadership capability
• MVR eligible driver.
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
• Strong decision making skills, versatility, and initiative.
• Able to multi-task and have strong human relation skills.
• Desire to learn and apply experiences as necessary.
• Strong interpersonal skills to be able to communicate in a positive manner with members, participants and staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to drive boating and required watercraft equipment.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
