Discovery Biology Unit provides validated discovery assays, including in vitro assays (HTS, SAR screening support, compound selectivity and early safety profiling, and cancer cell panel profiling) and in vivo disease models in cardiovascular, CNS, respiratory, metabolic and infectious diseases. Founded in 2008, we have multiple function teams of ~500 scientists, including 11% PhD, 55% MSc, and led by 12 seasoned scientific leaders with an average of 15 years of R&D experience in the US, Canada, and UK.

Job Location: Suzhou, China

Responsibilities

• Design and implement best-fit strategy for in vitro pharmacology service to support overall drug development across stages, responsible for setting up strategic direction and leading the program all the way to reach high level of scientific achievements for the company.
• To lead a large team of biologists, responsible for team expansion, training, and its daily operational management.
• Promote the WuXi Biology platform service through multiple channels, aiming for highest business growth rate.
• To optimize the current assay platform and develop new capabilities to meet market demands.
• Lead a team of pharmacologists to provide in vitro pharmacology service to world-class pharma and biopharma for small and large molecule drugs.
• Effectively communicate and interface with worldwide business partners, develop and maintain excellent business relationship with internal and external clients.
• Serve as an expert to lead pharmacology programs, establish robust and reproducible disease relevant models to evaluate compound’s pharmacological properties, Prepare, review or approve related reports to clients.
• Stays current on technologies and help maintain the organization’s long-term competitive position and profitability;
• Attend scientific conferences and represents WuXi AppTec to potential clients where appropriate.
• Review revenue statistics and work towards an annual goal of revenue achievement.
• Provide scientific support to BDs and clients and deal with inquiries on WuXi Biology in vitro capabilities and data packs, working closely with the global team.

Qualifications

• PhD in biological sciences and pharmacology; preferably with a successful postdoctoral training.
• 15 years’ experience in R&D environment in CROs and/or pharmaceutical companies.
• In-depth knowledge in key components and process of drug discovery, applied pharmacology, and drug development, very experienced in vitro studies.
• Proven track record to manage an in vitro pharmacology group in experience.
• Strong communication skills in both Mandarin Chinese and English; ability to work effectively across multiple multidisciplinary teams and across sites.
