The role

We are looking for a Design Studio Director. This individual will develop, create, and lead in-class design efforts to ensure exceptional customer experiences and support sales growth through creative design thinking. Reporting into the Vice President of Operations, this individual will work with the Design team to co-create inspirational and functional spaces alongside A D designers and clients as a true extension of the overall design process. Their focus is ensuring creative strategies are deployed to provide tailored services offerings that meet client needs and support the business goals of WR. The Design Studio Director will create sustainable standards to hold the team accountable for achieving these goals, reinforcing the power of creativity creates meaning, purpose, and profound and lasting connections. This individual will also serve as a communication link between the Sales, Project Management, Customer Experience, Marketing and Design teams, while participating in business development.

What you will do

~ Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Creating a design culture that ensures a consistent standard of industry leading deliverables is met through continuously innovating standards and training.
  • Deploying resources and strategies to ensure that the work process flows smoothly, to ensure the vision of the client’s needs are executed with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Managing design strategy and solutions for competitive and creative opportunities with support from WR’s design team, including acting as the primary liaison for these clients through design visioning by utilizing understanding of design trends and holistic workplace strategy.
  • Leading the creative efforts of multiple specialists on projects from the initial programming phase to specification and installation by providing vision alignment through the design process.
  • Participating in business development, marketing and recruiting effort through acting as a subject matter expert in workplace strategy and interior solutions programming.
  • Innovating WR’s team of Designers to ensure project goals and budget are met (e.g., timelines, determining resources needed, monitoring and controlling costs) while showing the agility to adjust to changes as needed to support the business and achieve company and client goals.
  • Understanding the big picture view of the business and the company’s impact of decisions made and changes implemented.
  • Leveraging the tenants of creative design thinking to support the continuous improvement of the design team and how its processes impact project implementation and overall financial health of the department.
  • Cultivating business relationships with other departments and providing positive and effective representation in meetings with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborating with WR’s marketing team to ensure client deliverables and competitive packages support the work to the highest standard, promote workplace/space innovations, highlight industry trends and changes, and support a continuous feedback loop so we can maximize efficiency and market engagement.
  • Inspiring and encouraging ongoing process improvements and the integration of new technology across the company to increase flexibility, reduce administrative costs, and increase engagement with customers.

~ Supervisory Functions

  • Analyzing staffing needs to hire and retain enthusiastic, passionate, and committed employees; provide training, guidance, and mentoring for continued growth and success.
  • Managing a regular cadence with other team leaders. (removed an “including”)
  • Establishing and monitoring team goals, setting key accountabilities, objectives, priorities, and performance measures.
  • Establishing and monitoring individuals’ goals, ensuring Designers are valued, heard, and supported while working through performance measures aligned with company goals.
  • Advocating for different points of view for both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing design coaching, mentoring, training, and development across in-person and remote settings to include all WR Markets in partnership with the Market VP.
  • Instilling a culture driven by collaboration while encouraging employees to be independent thinkers.
  • Setting the example for excellence, effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution, and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.
  • Evaluating, leading, and implementing projects, process improvements, and needed business changes, as well as overseeing ongoing day-to-day business operations.

What success will look like

A successful Design Studio Director will cultivate business relationships with other departments within Workplace Resource and provide positive and effective representation with internal and external customers of our business.

Qualifications and/or Experience

The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree (B. A. or B. S.) from an accredited college or university; and minimum of 7 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working in a similar position within the interior solutions industry, possessing specialized knowledge of design and workplace strategy
  • Understanding the importance of being customer focused, always acting with customers in mind and dedicated to meeting the customers’ expectations, adjusting the strategy as needed.
  • Ability to move others to action by translating company vision and core values into day-to-day activities and behaviors; guiding and motivating others to take actions that support the vision and values.
  • Ability to coordinate, plan, organize or manage multiple responsibilities and high-volume workload effectively with speed and accuracy.
  • Demonstrating detail orientation, understanding the importance of doing quality work and adhering to the standards to prevent errors.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability by being able to change course swiftly and purposefully when the needs of the business change, working irregular hours and extended shifts.
  • Ability to build customer loyalty by discovering what is important to the customer (internal and external) and responding to it.
  • Communicating effectively by interacting in a clear and compelling way that builds understanding and commitment with a wide range of people, both within and outside the company.
  • Possesses leadership skills, assertive, self-confident, self-starter, and the ability to empower, mentor and manage employees.
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions, even in difficult situations, for timely resolution and in the company’s best interest.
  • Demonstrate ability to be agile and flexible to the changing conditions of the market and be purposeful about the changes the business will need to be successful.
  • Demonstrate integrity, transparency, and trust by acting ethically in all situations.
  • Proficient in all technology tools required to effectively run the business, such as CAP, Microsoft Office, and any industry-related technology.

Pursuant to the Colorado Fair Pay Act, compensation for this role is market competitive, including an annualized salary range of $85,000 to $95,000. Work Environment and Physical/Mental Demands

The position requires working typically in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as office phone/smartphone, computer/laptop, photocopiers, filing cabinets and printers. This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
