Position Summary:

As the Director of Settlements, you will be supporting the Chief Financial Officer to successfully oversee and manage all aspects of our organization's settlement operations. The Director of Settlements will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure timely and accurate settlement of transactions, managing settlement risk, and optimizing settlement processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, excellent analytical skills, and a deep understanding legal and accounting practices, as well as settlement procedures.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement settlement strategies and policies to ensure efficient and accurate processing of settlements.
  • Monitor and assess settlement risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a team of settlement professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to established procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal department to address settlement-related issues and implement process improvements.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on settlement performance, risk exposure, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance automation, streamline workflows, and reduce operational costs within the settlement function.
  • Stay up to date with changes in personal injury laws and regulations to ensure compliance within the department.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the settlement team.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in settlement operations within a legal field with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams, drive performance, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives, manage projects, and drive organizational change.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and systems used in settlement operations, such as case management systems, risk management tools, and reporting systems.
  • Highly efficient communication skills, verbal and written, to clearly express logical reasoned ideas.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment with normal business hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions.
  • Stand/Sit – Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • Walk – This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, office machinery, etc.
  • Use of hands/fingers to handle or feel – Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine/printer.
  • Climbs stairs – May occasionally ascends/descends the stairs to get to other floors, cafeteria, and parking area.
  • Carry Weight/Lift - Occasionally moves supplies weighing up to 10 pounds for various presentation and event needs.
