Wingspan Life Resources has an opening for Director of Specialized Services. The Director of Specialized Services is responsible for the leadership, oversight and development of the Specialized Services homes assuring all programs reflect the mission, vision and philosophy of Wingspan Life Resources and comply with state, county and federal licensing requirements.
Founded in 1973, Wingspan Life Resources is a growing and dynamic nonprofit organization that provides services to people with developmental and other disabilities in residential homes, a Crisis Respite Center, and In-Home programs throughout the Twin Cities.
OVERVIEW:
Supervision:
  • Supervise all Program Directors that oversee the Specialized Services program
  • Oversee hiring and training of staff
  • Provide leadership, guidance, advice, coaching, direction, and support to Program Directors and House Coordinators
  • Offer additional support and development opportunities to House Coordinators
  • Provide training and information necessary for the Program Directors to develop and expand their leadership skills
  • Provide regular feedback on performance during Supervisory meetings as well as developing growth and development opportunities for Program Directors and House Coordinators
  • Conduct regular Program Management Meetings preparing agenda items and information for meetings, facilitate meeting and addressing conflicts and disagreements
  • Apprise the Executive Director on the coaching, development, disciplinary actions and termination of Specialized Services staff
Direction of Service Provision In Coordination with the Director of Residential Services:
  • Evaluate service provision with clients, case managers and families on a regular basis
  • Oversee and develop an effective training and orientation program for residential staff and House Coordinators
  • Assure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations
  • Assure that service provision is consistent with the service philosophy of person-centered planning
  • Maintain positive and beneficial relationships with county and State representatives
  • Recommend changes as needed to systems, policies, and procedures to maintain service philosophy and compliance
  • Continually create and seek innovative ways to improve service to clients
  • Maintain knowledge of effective methods of service provision to individuals with behavioral and mental health issues
  • Promotes active treatment of clients in all aspects of life through choice, participation in tasks of daily living, and encouraging independence as appropriate
  • Plans and/or participates in activities that are in the best interest of the client, supports their cultural needs and choices, and may represent their sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs, etc.
Participate as a member of the Executive Team:
  • Participate actively in meetings
  • Report to the Executive Team meeting updates from the Program Meetings
  • Keep the Executive Director apprised of program successes, concerns and errors
  • Work in collaboration with all members of the Executive Team
Administration:
  • Incorporate new programs into the organization through effective communication, education and advocacy.
  • Assist Executive Director in program development, forecasting cost and budget analysis, and reviewing goals and strategies for business growth opportunities
  • Assists Executive Director in the review and development of fiscal year budget
  • Ensures that expenses are within the overall budget or recommends changes to the budget
  • Oversees documentation of programs, employees, and various issues
  • Oversees the In-take process of new client vacancies
Direction of Service Provision:
  • Licensing visits results in no serious violations or deficiencies
  • County and State representatives report positive relationships and communication
  • Complete and regular systems evaluation of service provision.
Development of New Sites:
  • Development of new SS homes including:
  • Responding to RFPs and requests for exceptions
  • Work with counties, case managers, MORA and DHS to create new opportunities for the expansion of Specialized Services
  • Home purchase and adaptations
  • Furnishings
  • Necessary equipment and supplies
  • Assure proper placement including evaluating housemate match as necessary.
  • Write initial and annual exception requests
  • Other duties as needed
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations Director and the maintenance team in making needed adaptions to the home
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Ability to meet licensing requirements of state and county
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain a positive demeanor
  • Ability to work independently and without continuous on-site supervision
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • A passion for helping others develop to their fullest potential
  • Works in a variety of settings inside and outside the site and throughout the community
  • May be subject to emotionally upset and physically aggressive clients
  • May be exposed to infectious illnesses, odors, dust, pets, etc. throughout the day
  • Valid MN Drivers’ License and a driving record that meets Wingspan’s requirements
  • Maintain necessary insurance coverage that meets minimum state requirements
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Sits, stands, walks, bends, lifts, pushes, pulls, and moves intermittently during work hours
  • Ability to complete tasks such as shoveling, shopping, mowing, vacuuming, and pushing a wheelchair
Educational Level:
Four year degree in a related field of study
Training and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Qualified as a Designated Coordinator
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience directing a leadership team
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills/crisis management background working with families with social-emotional challenges are preferred along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • This position requires a technology literate individual who can train others in the use of technology systems, help with data collection and interpretation, with the ability to use data effectively.
  • Experience in working with, and developing programs for individuals with dual diagnosis of Developmental Disability and Mental Illness
COMPENSATION:
This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $85,000 - $92,000.
