Job Title: Security Officer,
Hours: 10am-6:30pm
Reports to: Security Manager (full-time)
Department: Facilities
Windermere Preparatory School is seeking a credentialed Security Officer to provide security and protection to all WPS students, employees, visitors, and property. Provides escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned areas. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides a first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Patrols assigned area on foot, in the assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
● Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses school keys to open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
● Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information.
● Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.
● Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive.
● Oversees scheduled events and ensures all areas safe and prepared as scheduled.
● Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or parking garages to provide public security and assistance.
● May be required to perform incidental custodial and maintenance duties as required.
● Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
● Class D Security License
● High School diploma or equivalent
● Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
● Surveillance skills, deals with uncertainty, judgment, objectivity, dependability, emotional control, integrity, safety management, professionalism, reporting skills.
● 3 years’ Experience in Security operations.
● Ability to work M-F from 10:00-6:30 but may be required to work irregular hours/weekends or during inclement weather or special events.
● As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
● As a condition of continued employment, employee must always maintain current active status of all required License and must always carry the license while on duty.
● Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
● Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
● Must be willing to work some holidays, after hour events and occasional weekends.
● Must be able to think critically and handle stressful situations.
● Must have reliable transportation
● Good command of written and spoken English.
