Winchester Interconnect is Hiring a Mechanical Test Technician Near Houston, TX

As our Assembly Tester, your primary role will involve conducting thorough electrical tests on assemblies, utilizing both manual and automatic testing equipment. You will be responsible for identifying and rectifying faulty wiring terminations. Additionally, effective communication with the production team regarding work-in-progress (WIP) defects for rework and repair will be crucial. You will also play a key role in safely troubleshooting any electrical problems that may arise during testing.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-year Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred
  • Understanding of basic electronics theory
  • Dynamic analytical and problem solving abilities to troubleshoot failure modes
  • Ability to build trust and interact with production employees in a professional manner
  • Maintain a safe working environment & ensuring that all tasks are conducted with a safety first attitude
  • Examine, inspect & electrically test cable & wire harnesses for completeness of assembly, quality, and conformance to drawings and other relevant standards during in-process, before and after molding where applicable
  • You must have the ability to work alone and in a “Team” environment.
  • Inspect wiring of assemblies for accuracy of stripping, soldering, and crimping, and for defects
  • Look for frayed wires, loose crimp and loose backshell connections
  • Test continuity, short, insulation leakage manually with multimeter, Megger (Megohmmeter) or automatically with a high voltage multi-pin tester
  • Work with the Quality department on reporting non-conforming products that cannot be reworked or repaired by production team members due to defective components
  • Verify wire and cable length using measuring tools
  • Check Mechanical 3F (Form, Fit and Function) during electrical tests using mating test connectors/jigs or against the drawing
  • Report to supervisor and production team leader on all issues that may cause products to ship late or past the due date
  • Assist with training of co-workers
  • Keep work area clean and orderly
  • Perform other non-essential, non-frequent duties as required within job classification and qualifications
  • Continually ensure quality, efficiency, on time delivery

What will you be Accountable for?

  • Test products per assigned process to ensure functionality, reliability, and durability. 
  • Coordinate with the production departments when products don’t meet specifications.
  • Identify testing processes that need improvement and recommend changes
  • Create test programs for all newly designed products and support test programs for legacy products.
  • Ability to interpret failed test reports and troubleshoot cable assemblies for root cause analysis.
  • Conduct preventive & corrective maintenance of test equipment to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Works with Assembly Lead, QA, and Process Engineering to ensure product quality, by identifying and resolving testing issues, as well as identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
  • Performs appropriate in process inspections and tests such as workmanship, dimensional, and interface gauging in accordance with product and process specifications
  • Sets up and operates appropriate equipment, test fixtures, etc. to ensure cable assemblies are tested in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Ensures all test records and inspection reports are saved in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Maintains safe, clean working environment in compliance with Winchester policies and procedures

How will you Collaborate?

Supports QA functions in performing root cause analysis. Works with Production, Quality, and Engineering Departments to identify test fixtures, harnesses, equipment, and programs that are in need of repair, maintenance and/or calibration. Assists with training and orientation of employees
