Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi-disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is currently seeking a full-time Environmental Practice Lead for our West Region to join our team in either Phoenix, Arizona or San Bernardino, California. We’re looking for someone who is ready to jump in and lead projects, mentor staff, and build relationships with current and future clients. Our ideal candidate would be an experienced leader wanting to work at a great company, or an experienced professional ready to take the next step and grow into a leadership role. We’re offering you the chance at Higher Relationships with Wilson & Company, your coworkers, and our clients.

You will lead and develop our growing, interdisciplinary team of environmental professionals in Arizona and California to deliver a robust program of environmental projects supporting our federal, state, local, private, and tribal clients under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other applicable federal and state regulations. You will be a leader within our larger, national team of environmental professionals in the pursuit and execution of work firmwide.

Regional Leads are responsible for leading, supervising and mentoring staff, developing and maintaining a leadership pipeline within the environmental program, and delegating/allocating staff resources to ensure that all project milestones are met by the team. Our Regional Leads meet every two weeks and coordinate closely to share work, support each other, and provide growth opportunities for all of our staff members. Management, supervisory, and leadership experience are required along with strong communication skills. We expect you to be able to communicate and collaborate with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm (including transportation, railroad, municipal services) to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.

You will also be responsible for managing environmental and NEPA projects through all phases, from initial marketing and scope of work/fee development through approval of final deliverables. Specific tasks include marketing and business development, client coordination, management of schedules and budgets, coordination and oversight of project teams (task leads, resource specialists, subconsultants, etc.), and collaboration with engineering staff in a variety of industry disciplines. You will be a principal author of NEPA documentation including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), Categorical Exclusions (CE), and Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL). Strong writing skills and the ability to provide accurate quality control are required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead, supervise and mentor staff, develop and maintain a leadership pipeline, and delegate/allocate staff resources.
  • Provide oversight for the execution of environmental work, including project management, NEPA document preparation, and technical resource tasks.
  • Serve as project manager for environmental/NEPA projects in AZ, CA, and firmwide; coordinate with and support task leads for overall project performance and delivery of projects on schedule and on budget.
  • Communicate directly with federal, state, local and tribal clients.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of environmental documentation, including resource-specific technical reports, CEs, EAs, and EISs.
  • Actively identify and pursue business development opportunities, build relationships with current and future clients, and work with other teams in AZ and CA to find and win work.
  • Support the local and national environmental program through marketing, proposal preparation, and environmental analysis and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm (including transportation, railroad, municipal services) to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.
