Whiting Corp. is Hiring a Senior Tax Accountant Near Houston, TX
Position Summary This position will be responsible for preparation of i) all aspects of the tax compliance process, (ii) assistance with all tax functions, including indirect taxes and tax audits, iii) assistance with the execution of tax planning initiatives, and iv) the preparation of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and UTP calculations and analysis. This position reports directly to the Tax Manager and is located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with experience. Essential Job Functions Preparation of federal and state income tax compliance for the corporate entities Preparation of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and UTP calculations and analysis Assist with the execution and implementation of tax planning initiatives, as well as tax process improvements Assist with defending tax filing positions in audits by taxing jurisdictions Assist with tax projections and modeling Proactively minimize the Company’s tax liabilities via identifying, researching, and recommending tax planning, incentives and structuring at the federal, state and local levels Proactively stay abreast of new and proposed tax legislation that could impact the Company’s tax liability, including determining and projecting the impact on the Company, as needed. Preparation of all tax-related journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and financial statement variances Preparation of all tax-related disclosures in SEC filings Assist with reviewing internal controls to determine if controls are sufficient and review for changes, as needed; participate in all controls testing by both internal and external auditors Be a key point of contact to resolve all tax-related issues, both within the Accounting department and across the organization Assist with tax-related special projects and questions, as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required 6 years of Corporate Tax experience, including Tax Accounting Oil and Gas Accounting Experience Experienced technical background in federal, state and partnership taxation. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and research tools. Strong analytical and technical skills; detailed oriented. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization. Strong organizational skills and work process orientation necessary; ability to prioritize workload and deliver results. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be an independent self-starter with a high level of confidence and a critical approach to matters.
