About Western Landowners Alliance (WLA): Founded in 2012 by landowners and managers, the organization aims to increase the wellbeing of working lands in the American West and the living communities, including human and wildlife, that depend on them.

Position Overview: The Eastern New Mexico Resources Coordinator will convene producers and partners and facilitate access to technical assistance to support the health of working lands and enhanced habitat resilience through coordinated stewardship in eastern New Mexico. This position will directly support the development of a pilot ecosystem services project that draws on the expertise of project partners to plan, implement and evaluate working lands management.

Amount of Time & Status: 40 hours a week, exempt, Monday-Friday

Location: This position is remote, but preferred location is in eastern New Mexico.

Reports to: Working Lands Program Director

Compensation: $60,000-$66,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. Duties/Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide dedicated, local capacity to producers and partners to establish and support adaptive management practices and progress towards shared stewardship goals in eastern New Mexico
  • Engage in producer outreach and provide technical assistance to landowners related to regional, state, and federal working lands programs and resources
  • Support existing partnerships and identify and establish additional collaborative relationships with government agencies, producer groups, and other community-based organizations in support of defined regional goals
  • Facilitate and coordinate logistics for partner workshops, virtual meetings, and site visits.
  • Explore and support project development of ecosystem service market opportunities that benefit producers and local communities in eastern New Mexico
  • Support partner data collection and evaluation of existing projects (i.e., vegetation mapping and soil health)
  • Support other WLA staff and partners in planning, outreach, and delivery of opportunities designed to engage diverse practitioners and other stakeholders in working lands stewardship
  • Assist in grant writing and reports
  • Identify/explore funding for ongoing work in the region
  • Other duties as assigne

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
    • Knowledge of current rangeland ecosystem management principles, concepts, and theories is preferred
    • Strong understanding of federal and state programs that promote conservation on private land (including Farm Bill programs)
    • Experience with collaborative and strategic planning, is preferred
    • Adaptable and able to move work forward within complex multi-stakeholder partnerships
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
    • Successful grant writing experience, is preferred
    • Experience and record of success in working with landowners or landowner groups
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, is required
    • Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations.

    Working Environment/Physical Activities: Work environment is an office and field setting. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the telephone and via email; standing for long periods of time; periodic travel and traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds.
