Job Description

Western Digital is seeking an experienced Head of Compensation to lead the design and management of various rewards programs. This pivotal role involves aligning business objectives, crafting compensation strategies, and ensuring fair and equitable pay practices. Collaborating closely with global total rewards teams, People team leaders, cross-functional business leaders, and executives, the role will report to the Head of Total Rewards. This leader will play a critical role in shaping our evolving rewards programs to drive enhanced employee engagement and deliver maximum business results.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Lead and collaborate with the global compensation team members to design, manage, and execute various rewards programs across the enterprise.

• Partner cross-functionally to ensure timely delivery and execution of rewards programs and training for business leaders and managers.

• Conduct ad-hoc compensation analyses and research projects. Identify and seek multiple data-points to evaluate and assess effectiveness of various rewards programs.

• Collaborate and lead cross-functional team projects with HR Business Partners, People Solutions stakeholders, and cross-functional team members, including Legal, Finance, Accounting, and Payroll representatives.

• Conduct regular market research, surveys, and data analysis to stay up to date with relevant industry and peer company compensation trends to ensure a market competitive position.

• Provide timely and efficient real time market data and job evaluation assistance to business leaders and HR Business Partners.

• Serve as a strategic thought partner for the People Solutions leadership team, collaborating on creative and culturally aligned compensation approaches and solutions for Western Digital. Utilize data driven analysis, supported by industry best practices and expert knowledge.

• Consistently execute complex cases on a global scale requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.

• Manage ongoing employee compensation programs, including focal cycles, STI bonus programs, annual market reviews, promotions, and equity refresh cycle.

• Lead and mentor a team of compensation professionals in the rewards organization, nurturing their growth and development to ensure they deliver high-quality support to the organization.

• Make recommendations for new procedures based on problem statements, data driven analysis, and potential solutions

Qualifications

Qualification and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree plus equivalent work experience and relevant qualifications. Master's degree preferred.

• 15 years of progressive functional experience, including 5 or more years of people management experience in a global high-tech company.

• Advanced proficiency working with the Microsoft Suite and good familiarity in Workday HCM and Advanced Compensation module.

• Strong understanding of global compensation principles, general industry practices, regulations, and both historical and current market trends.

• Advanced system knowledge and extensive work experience in base pay, short term incentives, equity programs, and work experience in sales and executive compensation.

• Strong working knowledge with financial and accounting principles to ensure the financial impact of various program designs and implementations across global, disbursed businesses and diverse job classes.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a team, inspire employees, and collaborate with cross functional team members and stakeholders.

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to thrive and execute high profile and highly visible programs and projects in a fast-paced environment.

• Comfortable navigating through in uncertain or ambiguous situations and dealing with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

• Ability to identity areas for improvement in procedures, instructions, current practices, and policies.

• Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, to effectively present complex and controversial ideas and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

• Strong interpersonal skills in counseling, consulting, and negotiating to effectively engage with employees at all levels throughout the organization.

• Able to apply concepts of business analytics and statistics to create presentation reports.

Compensation & Benefits Details

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
