Westchester Jewish Community Services is Hiring a DSP (Direct Support Professional) Near White Plains, NY

Location and Overview:

Community Programs of WJCS is currently searching for both full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time (12-35 hours/week) Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work in one of the 13 group homes located in Westchester County. Under the general supervision of the Residence Manager, the DSP will support intellectually/developmentally disabled individuals in their development of basic living and social skills with the primary goal of integrating them into the community to the best of their ability.

WJCS, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1943 and has grown to be the largest provider of licensed outpatient community mental health services and one of the largest human service agencies in Westchester county. We provide state-of-the-art programs and services and compassionate care to more than 20,000 people of all ages and backgrounds throughout Westchester.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing assistance, services and supports that promote independence and active participation in daily living within the residence.
  • Administering medications as assigned.
  • Observing and reporting individuals’ illness, health care concerns, injuries, incidents and possible individual abuse.
  • Support in the overall operation of the community-based residence.
  • Practicing justice, fairness, and equity for the people you support and the community as a whole.
  • Affirm the human rights, civil rights and responsibilities of the people you support.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Able to participate in, pass and maintain certification of WJCS required training that includes but may not be limited to Medication Administration, SCIP, CPR/First Aid, Driving the Van and Mandatory Training as identified by OPWDD.
  • A Valid Driver’s License for over two years is a must.
  • This position requires physical activity including but limited to lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, flexing, and bending.

Salary Range:

  • $16.00 - $18.50
