The base compensation for this position is $16.00 - $21.00/hour, DOE, plus annual bonus.

Job Description

The Health & Safety Assistant will provide full time support and assistance to the operations of Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. and Western EcoSystems Technology, ULC. This position will assist the Health and Safety Manager with the planning, implementing, and maintaining of all health and safety programs in order to comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations as well as customer requirements. In addition the coordinator will assist to reduce injuries and claims by monitoring and evaluating safe work conditions and opportunities for improvement. The assistant will participate by proactively promoting a positive and safe work culture at WEST.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist Health and Safety Manager and support all US & Canada safety staff with admin and training functions.
  • Updates and maintains all management systems (ISNetworld, Avetta, Vertiforce, etc.) for the US & Canada.
  • Coordinates training and prevention efforts.
  • Updates incident response plans, including emergency and crisis plans.
  • Maintains documentation database.
  • Maintains required federal/state/local governing entities health and safety posters, emergency telephone numbers, OSHA Form 300 and other required notices.
  • Maintains accident and incident investigation and reporting procedures and systems.
  • Keeps all records and reports of accidents that have taken place during company operations.
  • Process all paperwork associated with accidents, on-site inspections, and in house audits.
  • Reports accidents that result in an occupational fatality or three or more hospitalized workers to federal/state/local governing entities as required within eight hours of occurrence.
  • Audits client contracts to ensure the environmental, health and safety policy, procedures and training meet contract requirements.
  • Completes client specific questionnaires, job hazard analysis forms, audits and request for health and safety information.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of the health and safety budget.
  • Assist management with annual health and safety program report.
  • Assist with the completion of Workman’s Compensation claims, correspondence and reporting.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who is able to pay close attention to detail and possess:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in an office setting.
  • Some knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Record of exceptional customer support.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling information and documentation.
  • Be detail oriented in all transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to operate most standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit and talk in an office setting, often for long periods of time.
  • Operate computers, keyboards and other peripheral equipment.
  • Bend or stoop as needed for filing.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required.
