West 4th Strategy is Hiring a Paralegal Near San Francisco, CA

ROLE

We need a paralegal to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) U.S. Attorney’s Office (AUSA) of Northern District of California. In particular, you’ll support Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters working in conjunction with AUSAs legal support personnel the Automated Litigation Support unit and the Information Technology section.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist AUSAs by providing analytical support, research, word processing, and administrative assistance
  • Work with AUSAs investigator, federal agents and support staffs 
  • Help determine the most effective data management strategy to meet litigation needs
  • Diagnose and resolve computer system problems, provide user support, and customize systems meet user needs
  • Manage and operate computer hardware such as printers, plotters, audio-visual devises, etc.
  • Conceptualize exhibits and complete special presentation projects
  • Establish and maintain databases 
  • Manage, process, sort, and index, abstract, and coordinate large volumes of data
  • Organize documents for storage and retrieval by defining data file search criteria and coding fields
  • Prepare narrative summaries, charts, tables, graphs, or other visual aids (for motion hearings, trials, and sentencing)
  • Help produce discovery by scanning, copying, and uploading data and creating document productions from evidence repositories
  • Understand and apply various guidelines at the Federal State and local level for e-Discovery processing
  • Prepare computerized trial-presentation programs
  • Assist trial teams with creation and presentation of evidence during trial, e.g., PowerPoint slides, charts, tables, graphs, and other large-format graphic design visual aids
  • Determine the placement and appearance of visual materials that will most effectively convey to information to the court jury and/or witnesses
  • Perform work that involves communication through visual means assists with technology in the courtroom ensure computers and A/V equipment is in place in courtrooms and grand jury sessions
  • Prepare detailed reports making clear conclusions regarding assigned subject matter
  • Scan hardcopy documents to include unitizing and the objective and subjective coding of documents
  • Conduct special studies and cooperate with other departments in the preparation of analyses

BACKGROUND

  • Progressive and relevant experience
  • Familiarity with document management systems, trial presentation software, hardware, and graphics applications 
  • Ability to acquire knowledge about the USAO’s computer systems
  • Experience in data analysis, e.g., algorithms, Big Data, data mining, database design and management, documentation
  • Experience with PowerPoint and other software applications used in the creation of presentations and visual aids
  • Ability to evaluate existing procedures, processes, techniques, models, and/or systems related to litigation support data management problems or issues that would require a report and recommended solutions
  • Ability to manage electronic databases
  • Ability to perform routine tasks, e.g., copying, mailing, scanning, shredding and faxing
  • Excellent computer skill
  • Ability to use MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access or other databases, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and graphics design software like Adobe Photoshop or Smart Draw
  • Willingness to update computer skills as necessary to meet changing demands
  • Work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
