This position will oversee our downtown campus facilities which include, UofL Health - U of L Hospital, UofL Health - Jewish Hospital, UofL Health - Heart Hospital, U of L Health - Frazier Rehabilitation Institute and lead over 200 professionals while reporting directly to the System VP of Pharmacy Services.

Job Summary

The Director, Pharmacy Operations, Downtown Campus is responsible for the direction and leadership of operational, financial, programmatic and personnel activities for UofL Health Downtown Campus inpatient/central pharmacy services, as well as overall inpatient medication delivery programs and services including all perioperative care areas, and overall pharmacy programs and services. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for UofL Health. The director oversees the day-to-day operations, budgeting, financial management, and human resource management and works closely with a variety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of UofL Health Downtown Campus inpatient/central pharmacy and pharmacy services across the enterprise. The Director, Pharmacy Operations coordinates strategy for inpatient medication use process improvement, quality improvement, compliance related to aspects of pharmacy operations at UofL Health Downtown Campus.

Responsibilities:

Assures compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements and formal professional standards pertaining to drug storage, distribution, utilization, and control, including a system of controls and records for the requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceutical supplies to nursing care units and to other department/services of the organization; provides leadership and consultation to the drug storage and preparation areas of all Pharmacy Services, ensuring proper storage of pharmaceuticals
Prepares and delivers reports containing qualitative and/or quantitative data to System Director, Pharmacy Services and operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting

annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, and human resources

Oversight of our pharmacy consolidated services center (located on the downtown campus).
Develops programs to ensure that quality pharmaceutical care is delivered to all patients; ensures that principles of continuous quality improvement are utilized in the department to achieve this goal
Works to promote compliance with established policies within the department of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
Establishes annual financial goals and actively uses benchmarking to set annual targets in collaboration with System Director, Pharmacy Services
Prepares operational and capital budgets and is accountable for the annual personnel, supply, and expense budgets of the pharmacies; ensures the equipment and supply inventories and adequately maintained in order to provide for quality and continuity of pharmaceutical care
Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial outcomes, engaging staff in the process; creates business plan(s), justifying variances and analyzing cost benefit of programs
Directs and provides guidance to managers to effectively allocate resources based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals and objectives and communicates the budget and context to pharmacy staff
Provides oversight of scheduling and staffing patterns to meet productivity standards, maximize staff productivity, minimize overtime, and maintain payroll expense within budget guidelines; evaluates staffing patterns and adjusts measurement system and continuously refines the system in order to objectively opportunities to reduce personnel costs, while maintaining best practices and create an innovative environment
Identifies needs within the organization for expansion and improvement of pharmacy services; ensures that appropriate growth of departments is maintained in keeping with the corresponding growth and development of the organization
Collaborates with other departments or disciplines to improve medication use safety and efficiency
Provides guidance and supervision to pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians and works diligently to eliminate waste through creative solutions and staff engagement
Collaborates with pharmacy leadership in developing education, training, and competency programs
Provides leadership and effective personnel management in a fair and equitable manner, treating all employees the same, while establishing an environment which promotes employee pride and attracts high quality personnel.
Serves as a mentor and role model to pharmacy staff, aiding in the development of their clinical skills
Collaborates with pharmacy leadership in development and review of departmental policies and procedures
Oversees the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of quality staff
Develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies that support a culture of leadership
Assesses manager and staff development needs, identifies goals and provides resources
Removes barriers for staff to ensure optimal performance and establishes goals, interventions and measures to improve performance

Provides oversight to all pharmacy staff at UofL Health Downtown Campus (UofL Hospital, Jewish Hospital, Rudd Heart and Lung Center, and Frazier Rehabilitation Institute)
Represents the pharmacy department at local, state, and national professional meeting and seminars, thereby keeping informed of new concepts of pharmacy practice and trends in the profession as well as contributing toward recruitment efforts to attract qualified professionals to the pharmacy staff
In collaboration with the pharmacy institutional review board (IRB) representative, helps to ensure optimal handling of investigational agents and appropriate documentation; supports drug research conducted by the institution
Incorporates UofL Healths vision, missions and values in goals and programs within Downtown Campus inpatient/central pharmacy services
Maintains an effective working relationship with department personnel, with members of the medical staff, other departments, and affiliates.
Maintains an effective environment which fosters individual respect and encourages employees to contribute their talents and goals to UofL Health sites
Works collaboratively with pharmacy staff and other members of multidisciplinary team
Adheres to pharmacy services agreement
Precepts pharmacy students during APPE rotations, as necessary; precepts PGY1 and PGY2 residents (if applicable)
Participates in community activities and professional organizations to promote the services, programs and mission of the hospital.
Attend and lead departmental staff meetings
Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:
Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy (required)
Masters degree in healthcare or business administration (preferred)

Experience:
Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency or three (3) years of relevant work experience (required)
8 - 10 years of progressive inpatient pharmacy leadership experience (required)

Licensure:
Licensed or license eligible as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Certification:
Current board certification by Board of Pharmacy Specialties or must obtain within two (2) years from date of hire (required)

Current certification in Basic Life Support or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire (required)
