Webster University is Hiring a Student Access Coordinator Near St. Louis, MO

In alignment with Webster University's strategic plan and within the purview of the Reeg Academic Resource Center, the Student Access Coordinator is a member of the disability services team and cross trains with the Academic ADA Coordinator to provide a depth of services and support to students and ensure equal access for students. The Student Access Coordinator works with the entire student body to support their access to course materials, physical campus and learning spaces, and extra-curricular activities. The Student Access Coordinator also provides academic and educational guidance to students through Academic Counseling. Reports to the Director, Reeg Academic Resource Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in guidance and counseling, adult and higher education, special education, social work, vocational rehabilitation, clinical psychology, IT, or a related area is required.
Experience providing access and working with students with disabilities is required.
Experience working as part of a team is essential.
Experience in advising and/or mentoring students in a higher education setting is required.
Must be able to multitask and perform various responsibilities simultaneously.
Must be able to perform job responsibilities while managing and responding to frequent interruptions.
Must possess skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Must handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to calmly and efficiently handle interactions ranging from routine to emergency with faculty and staff members and students.
Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
Strong computer skills and experience with online services are desired.
Demonstrated flexibility and problem-solving skills are essential.
Excellent oral, written and communication skills are required.
Must have the ability to prioritize and manage work-related stress.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Accessible Information Management (AIM) is strongly preferred.
Essential Duties
Work with students to provide them with access to course materials, physical campus and learning spaces, and extra-curricular activities.
Provide academic and educational guidance and counseling to students, including working with faculty and staff members to ensure equal academic access and providing personalized assistance for and academic support to these students.
As needed to support student access, coordinate services and access to the necessary technologies and/or services (i.e., alternative format course materials, text-to-speech and speech-to-text applications, remote transcription, sign language interpreters, etc.), and provide support and troubleshooting as appropriate.
Move classes to appropriate classrooms as needed for physical accessibility issues.
With the Academic ADA Coordinator, develop, maintain, assess, and continually improve assistive technology, access, and ADA policies and procedures.
Work with IT and appropriate departments on campus to ensure that the necessary software and technology is available to students where it is needed, particularly in the Reeg ARC and the Library.
Report program news and statistics to the appropriate members of the University community.
Investigate and pursue grant opportunities to support assistive technology and access efforts at Webster.
Provide Academic Counseling and support to students per an assigned case load, including meeting with students to develop and carry out academic goals as well as ensure the students are following any Success Plans added through the Student Success Portal, powered by Starfish; developing personalized assistance for and academic support to students; and tutoring students as needed.
Counsel, support, and connect undeclared students and students considering changing their majors to campus resources in order to assist them in determining and declaring an academic major.
Identify specific campus services, including ADA accommodations, the Testing Center, tutoring and writing support, etc., for student success based on individual students needs.
Communicate with faculty members to identify academic issues and provide early intervention strategies.
Communicate with parents and families of students, upon consent and in accordance with FERPA, to generate a system of support for students.
Support other functions and the growth of the Reeg Academic Resource Center as needed.
Keep current with regard to best practices within the field by engaging in professional development opportunities and, where possible, presenting at such conferences and workshops.
Perform other functions as necessary or as assigned.
