Responsibilities

The MPD Engineering Manager is a degreed engineer with experience in Managed Pressure Drilling, Under-balanced Drilling, Air Drilling, and other disciplines related with the surface pressure and flow control systems provided by Weatherford MPD Business Unit. The position will focus on providing high quality well engineering deliverables to clients and our operational team on location in order to guarantee the application of best practices of well construction as well as keeping our safety standards as priority. The MPD Engineering Manager will interact with other disciplines of the organization (Technical Manager, Operations Manager, Quality Manager, Sales organization, and Product Line Director) in order to provide support required to guarantee continuous growth of our business in the Geozone.

Roles & Responsibilities

SAFETY, SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

  • Work or provide support on writing/assessing operating/contingency/operating procedures as per guidelines from our standards.
  • Plan operations strategies in order that limiting factors are not exceeded as well as monitor operating parameters on current projects are within the standards of safety for personnel, equipment, and environment.
  • Keep track of KPIs and historical job data bases.
  • Maintains the highest standards of corporate governance, ensuring that all activities are carried out ethically and in compliance with Company’s Security, Compliance & HSE policies, Management System, relevant laws, regulations, standards, and industry practices and complies with the Company’s Rules to Live By.

  • Provide support on incidents investigations when required and assure the lessosns learned are put in practice, monitoring constantly the barriers set in place defined to improve our service delivered to clients.

OPERATIONS

  • Provide technical expertise on all types of MPD variants (engineering and operational performance, as well as MPD software capabilities) on application for the Geozone (Land and Offshore)
  • Provide insight to other Geozones as well as support (when needed) to the Global Business Unit and Global Engineering Manager.
  • Prioritize growth and market share improvement by using MPD engineering deliverables and effective communication with clients.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to MPD Software team.
  • Provide guidance to WISE team and monitor continuous application of solutions (related with MPD software, engineering, and operational performance)
  • Work closely with clients in terms of procedural discipline and improvements that MPD can provide in order to guarantee long relationships.
  • For critical projects, integrate the sales and operations team to deliver high level support, including but not limited to field presence, kick off projects onsite, troubleshooting, onsite trainings and competency assessments (internal and external) and remediations needed to keep the relationship with our clients.
  • Respect and make respect lines of communications and chain of command. Assure communication is transmitted across the Geozone MPD team.
  • Capable of leading the MPD Engineering team to provide support for different types of wells including, complex multi-lateralss, extended reach (ERD) horizontal oil and gas wells, HPHT wells, offshore, deepwater, geothermal, unconventional wells, etc.
  • Lead and manage team’s performance in providing and implementing designs and technical/technological solutions on assigned projects
  • Collaborate with leadership to promote the quality improvement strategy of the company to meet strategic business objectives and profitability
  • Set and monitor targets for Key Performance Indicators and define safety and service quality improvement action plans geared to enhance safety, quality & efficiency both at well site and field locations
  • Develop short and long-range plans with the country leadership to promote and meet the service delivery requirements for the client
  • Manage a portfolio of optimized/new product requests and mapped clients’ need
  • Ensure that the organization is prepared to identify customer needs and issues, by offering customers the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions, delivering the best job execution with outstanding service quality, and to evaluate the obtained results to continue improving services in accordance with HSSE, Operational and Service Excellence plans and continuous improvement concepts
  • Organizes personnel, equipment and material resources in the most productive and cost-effective way to meet critical project demands
  • Support operations on technical troubleshooting related to hardware/software/procedural management of change
  • Support Hazid/Hazop, procedural review and customer training meetings
  • Approve regional risk assessment meetings pretainting to MPD including but not limited to HAZID/HAZOP/FAT/SIT/FMEA/FMECA/etc.
  • Develop/coordinate Operational/Contingency/Emergency procedures
  • Support clients trainings.
  • Support Center Of Excellence Operations (RTOC/SMEs)
  • Support regulatory engagement with clients to gain appropriate permits related to MPD work scope
  • Assist clients by acting as the GeoZone MPD Subject Matter Expert for MPD Engineering and operational performance/ improvements, and coordinate with Technical Managers for operational support.
  • Support MPD engineering team in clients operational meetings including but not limited to DWOP/CWOP/MPD-Go-No-Go/etc
  • Keep the standard of skills for the MPD Engineering group
  • Provide a critical support role in tracking the execution of business plans
  • Provide timely and appropriate information supporting relevant internal customers
  • Liaise with the Product Lines to continually improve Weatherford enterprise Document Management solutions for ease of use, accessibility and compliance with OEPS to ensure the business is meeting and/or exceeding customer expectations
  • Build strong and positive relationships with clients at various levels
  • Ensure the End of Well Reports (EOWR) and After Action Reviews (AARs) are capturing success factors, Lessons Learned (LL) , and optimization opportunities. Assure that LL will be integrated into future well designs for clients and prioritize delivery time (as per client expectations)
  • Constant clear communication with Product Liner Director to evaluate business performance in terms of plans. Evolution, and value creation.
  • Any other duties required by the Product Line Director (in function of market evolution and required support).

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Assure procedures are designed properly in order to keep control over the interaction of our processes with the environment.

COMMUNICATION

  • Conducts regular customer Project Review meetings in conjunction with sales to ensure our services, products and technical support meet their complete satisfaction
  • Maintains effective communications with all key stakeholders both internal and where appropriate external
  • Supervisors & Managers should clearly communicate expectations, roles and responsibilities to their reports

FINANCIAL

  • Evolve the current Project Engineering revenue generation system in order to provide improvement on financial terms.
  • All employees have an accountability to the organisation to be financially responsible whether they are in charge of a function budget or simply their own expenses
  • Costs incurred should be within approved budget, processed within agreed time frames & following the relevant financial policy and procedure.
  • Keep engineering costs under control (expenses, bonuses, salaries, others) balancing always positively with the team revenue generation.
  • Assist in defining the budgetary requirements based on qualification/validation activity plans, managing it in the most productive and cost-efficient manner
  • Support the geozone’s financial goals through optimum utilization of personnel, equipment and material resources, the set-up of proper control systems and sound expense control

PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT

  • Constant training and competencies evaluation for Project Engineers, Field Engineers,a nd NextGens.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training courses and awareness raising communications for MPD related data collection/analytics
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to support career development to direct, and where appropriate, indirect team members in the MPD workspace.
  • Monitor and follow up careers paths for Project Engineers and Nextgens within the Company standards including completing all necessary function, compliance & business standards training to enhance their knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Engage on a regular basis with Product Line Director to discuss their personal performance, objectives and opportunities to enhance their skills and experience to support their career potential.
  • Lead and supervise the engineering team (Project Engineers, Field Engineers, Nextgens, etc) as they develop, test, modify and create solutions to technical problems
  • Lead and engage employees to work to the best of their abilities as part of the team through open communications, regular meetings, coaching and counseling, recognition and rewards for their individual contributions and collective accomplishments
  • Promote teamwork through open communication to ensure correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements are implemented and followed
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training sessions to personnel
  • Employees have a responsibility for developing their own careers within the Company including completing all necessary function training to enhance their skills and experience

Qualifications

Experience & Education

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of experience in planning and executing MPD operations (Onshore, Offshroe and Deepwater)
  • 10 Years experience in engineering or applications roles
  • Experience in managing projects
  • Combined Surface and Subsea, Level 4 Well Control as well as certifications to travel offshore.
  • Experience managing data and providing products to stakeholders that will show MPD value.
  • Technical expertise regarding MPD Software, data models, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex projects and brief leadership.
  • Strong influencing, collaboration, oral and written communications skills

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge and experience in well design and operational planning (Casing Design, BHA Design and Cementing Design)
  • Land, shallow and deepwater experience (engineering and operations)
  • High Temperature High Pressure (HPHT)
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.

Travel Requirement:

This role may require domestic and potentially international travel of up to: 10-25%
