WHERE YOU FIT IN
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy, technology, and a passion to deliver products for a growing company. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in the success of the engineering team. In this role you will coach and lead a team of Software Development Engineers to build highly scalable services and applications. This position will interface between the engineering team, product owners, project managers, and business stakeholders to align on project requirements, business needs, and development progress.
As a manager, you will need to be able to look at problems in a new way and work with your team to invent simple solutions to complex problems. You will be responsible for the monitoring the progress and ensuring the success of the engineering team and their various projects. You will oversee team staffing and ensure all team members are being properly trained in our defined processes and procedures. This role requires you to set a compelling vision for your team and deliver high quality solutions in an environment where priorities can shift fast. To succeed, you will need excellent technical skills, coupled with powerful leadership, planning, and management capabilities.
Reporting into the Senior Engineering Manager, the role requires self-motivated, dedicated and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the overall development life cycle for solutions and projects which full under the designated area of responsibility.
  • Work with product owners to develop a strategy and roadmap to deliver requested capabilities to business stakeholders to help accomplish line of business and company goals.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions.
  • Work closely with architects, senior engineers, product owners and business analysts to determine the best approach and design for a given product or feature.
  • Work with project management on complex projects with significant business or bottom-line impacts.
  • Provide guidance to the team and ensure they adhere to best practices for software development, documentation, and design.
  • Evaluate performance and provide coaching for team members. Participate in career development and succession planning processes. Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a learning mindset. Mentoring of junior software developers.
  • Ensure team is staffed and skilled appropriately to deliver both current and future business needs.
  • Prepare and manage budget for area of responsibility.
  • Maintain current business knowledge/acumen, including application of technology solutions to deliver business results.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance relationships with business and IT partners. Communicate status to key stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Run SCRUM/Agile ceremonies.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the actions of the development team
  • Stakeholder management and tracking of external commitments

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 10-12 years of experience in software development and team management
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplined teams
  • Passion for mentoring, coaching, and seeing other succeed
  • Be a proactive team player - we're a small team with big ambitions in doing things at speed. As we work across a number of channels, projects, and conflicting priorities, being able to navigate and juggle multiple things on the go is required as well as being proactive enough to anticipate the next steps and actions.
  • Good communication skills, written and oral, for example ensuring sales agents are kept informed of any delays in turning around pricing requests, or outlining the rationale behind a decision not to approve credit for a customer.
  • Analytical mindset, demonstrate ability to problem solve and create practical solutions to overcome problems and mitigate risks.
  • Comfortable working in a target-driven and fast-changing environment, and able to respond to changing business needs
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook and strong Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a vested interest in team goals and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Self-motivated with the desire to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
  • Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills
