Wayne County Commissioners is Hiring a Director of Environmental Services Near Wooster, OH

The Wayne County Commissioners are looking for a Director for their Environmental Services Office. Wayne County offers great benefits, 11 paid holidays per year, ample sick leave and vacation leave (and unused leave rolls over to the next year, a great retirement system, and a great team! This position reports to the Commissioners and requires a Wastewater Operator 2 license.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans for and manages county programs related to water and wastewater operations including the supervision of personnel and daily operation of plants; conducts research, analyzes data and develops policies and procedures; ensures county stays in compliance with OEPA standards and regulations including lab work; develops and maintains departmental budget; operates plants as required due to staffing needs.
  • Plans for plant maintenance and upgrades and performs inspections of our facilities (e.g. reviews plant reports and labs to ensure compliance; physically inspects plants and, via our camera system, sewer lines to find and repair broken or worn items; plans for future repairs; identifies and coordinates the gathering of information needed to apply for various grant opportunities and follow up on projects to make sure they are meeting objectives and staying within grant guidelines).
  • Works with outside agencies (e.g. OEPA and others on compliance and future growth planning; vendors on contractual obligations and opportunities with new technology; other political subdivisions to identify third party contracting opportunities to further the financial strength of the department; Engineers on the design of new or renovated plants).
  • Operate collection system by checking lift stations, completing routine maintenance, checking for overflows, performing infiltration and inflow evaluations, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain logs, reports and other related documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required; CDL with tanker endorsement preferred.
  • Mechanical ability; experience with electrical systems, pump repair and computer controls.
  • Able to: lift 50 lbs.; work in environments that are hot, cold and noisy; walk, stand, stoop, lift, bend and reach.
