Compensation:

  • In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Role Summary :

The camp activity leader organizes, plans, and executes camp activities. They will support and guide the work and development of all camp counselors overseeing these activities. The role involves coordinating with staff on aspects of camp operations related to camp activities, supporting program initiatives, and upholding the highest standards for the health and safety of both campers and staff to ensure a positive camp experience. Furthermore, the camp activity leader will supervise the camp counselors-in-training (CIT) program, taking responsibility for their training, development, supervision, and evaluation. When not engaged in the leadership of camp activities or CIT programs, the camp activity leader will serve in a supporting role as a backup to the lead camp counselors for tasks involving campers.

Please Note : This seasonal position will begin on April 29th, 2024 and end on August 31, 2024.

  • Creates, plans, organizes and supervises all camp activities with the camp director and core staff.
  • Assigns camp counselors to assist with facilitating all planned camp activities according to the activity schedule.
  • Remains flexible and adaptable to the role, shifting between activity leadership tasks and counselor-in-training tasks and providing support to the lead camp counselors as needed.
  • Assign and assist with the after-hours programming as assigned (i.e., twilight, campfire, special events, etc.).
  • Oversees the counselors-in-training program (CIT) by collaborating with the camp director and core staff to design and implement a comprehensive training curriculum.
  • Supervises, trains, grows, and evaluates camp counselors-in-training.
  • Coordinates with lead camp counselors to manage counselors-in-training properly.
  • Attends and assists with the mandatory camp staff meetings before, during, and after each session.
  • Ensures camp counselors and other staff adhere to the 11:30 PM all-camp curfew.
  • Assists camp counselors to ensure clean and organized cabins, including campers’ personal belongings.
  • Assists in fire drills and all emergency camp procedures.
  • Assists with pick-up and drop-off of campers on arrival and departure day (may be required to drive a camp vehicle).
  • Assists with loading and unloading of luggage on arrival and departure day.
  • Meets with campers, their parent(s), and assigned counselors, especially on arrival and departure days.
  • Meets regularly with the camp director and core staff to plan and implement operations regarding camp actvities and CIT programs effectively.
  • Follows and enforces camp policies and ensures the safety of camp and campers.
  • Assists in developing campers’ objectives with camp activity counselors to ensure campers’ needs are being met.
  • Attends all meetings scheduled by the camp director.
  • Assist lead camp counselors when needed with cabin assignments.
  • Sits and interacts with campers and counselors during mealtimes.
  • Be readily available to fill in for camp counselors’ various circumstances (i.e., emergency, illness, distress, etc.).
  • Leads line-up activities (i.e., “chicken fat”) before meals in the designated area.

Qualifications


  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification is required.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Ability to oversee and supervise small and large groups in camp and cabin activities is required.
  • Prior resident camp experience is highly preferred.
  • Desire to work with children, teens, and adults who are blind, visually impaired, and multi-disabled is required.
  • Ability to organize daily activities.
