Compensation:

In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

This role is eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus (Paid in one installment at six month mark).

Role Summary

The Associate Director of Development plays a pivotal role in Wayfinder Family Services through fundraising for the annual fund and major gifts, managing various fundraising and stewardship events, and coordinating volunteer leadership efforts. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development and Donor Relations, the Associate Director of Development position focuses on donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and planning and executing signature events to engage donors and raise critical funds for the organization.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, strategic initiatives, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Promotes a healthy organizational culture based on trust, respect, empowerment and accountability.
  • Develop and execute policies and procedures and a system of accountability that tracks the quality of service, program budget, relevant documentation, and adherence to regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Ensures sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Fund Management:

  • As a frontline fundraiser, carry a portfolio of 100-125 annual and major gift prospects in Northern CA. Actively managing and tracking those prospects through the stages of the donor cycle. Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors to secure annual and major gifts.
  • Develop and build the portfolio to include current and lapsed donors and secure new prospects.
  • Building relationships with assigned prospects to bring them closer to Wayfinder. Develops and implements individual cultivation and solicitation strategies. Secures substantive donor meetings (in-person, office tours, and/or via Zoom).
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies aimed at achieving specific fundraising goals.
  • Qualifying those prospects identified, through analytics and predictive modeling, as having high giving capacity and likelihood to give to Wayfinder Family Services.
  • Developing and implementing individual cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Creating individual gift solicitations commensurate with the prospective donors' capacity and likelihood to give and their interest and desired impact on Wayfinder Family Services.
  • Regular reporting on portfolio and moves-management strategies to the AVP of Development and Donor Relations.

Event Planning:

  • Plan an annual signature fundraising event for 150-200 guests and an annual stewardship event for 100 guests. Both events are held in Sacramento.
  • Secure sponsorships and manage all event logistics, including budget, venue selection, catering, entertainment, and guest lists. Work with volunteers and Council members to ensure successful event execution.

Volunteer Engagement:

  • Oversee a volunteer council of ten members’ engagement and fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with council members to establish goals and objectives that align with the organization's mission.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans and initiatives to ensure positive fundraising outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as may become necessary or as directed.

Qualifications


  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related field is required.
  • Approximately three to five years of development experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have direct fundraising experience and detail for event fundraising.
  • A track record of fundraising success, including annual fund and major gifts, with the ability to close major gifts at the $5,000 level and above, developing solicitation asks and fundraising plans, and demonstrating creative and innovative approaches.
  • Experience managing a volunteer leadership group (i.e., junior board, council, committee).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel throughout Northern, CA for donor visits.
