Position: Coordinator of Mental and Behavioral Health Services

Department: Student Services

Reports to: Director of Student Services

Affiliation: WEA Unit B

Salary range: As Determined by Unit B Contract - 193 days

Summary:

The Watertown Public Schools seek an outstanding Coordinator of Mental and Behavioral Health to oversee all mental and behavioral health services district-wide. The Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Student Services and will support administrators and faculty members in preschool through high school in assuring that students’ school-based mental and behavioral health needs are met. The ideal candidate has a growth mindset and uses a strengths-based approach to working with children and families. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision and consultation for all counseling faculty
  • Provide timely, effective, and meaningful professional learning opportunities for all mental and behavioral health faculty
  • Coordinate mental and behavioral health services and supports, including oversight of MTSS interventions in collaboration with building-based administrators
  • Coordinate the administration of universal mental health screeners as appropriate
  • In collaboration with the Coordinator of Nursing, oversee the SBIRT screening process
  • In collaboration with building-based administrators, supervise and evaluate school counselors, social workers, school adjustment counselors, behavior specialists, BCBAs, and other mental and behavioral health faculty
  • Provide professional development for all staff in basic de-escalation techniques
  • Ensure certification for appropriate staff in safe procedures for managing behaviors requiring restraint (Safety Care)
  • Chair the district Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan implementation team
  • Consult to district and building-based crisis response teams to effectively respond to self-harm, suicidality, and threat assessments
  • Coordinate community-based mental health services partnerships and serve as the liaison to all community-based mental health agencies
  • Provide consultation to staff and administration regarding critical incidents
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience in working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in working with community agencies that provide therapeutic services to children and families
  • Experience in collaborating with agencies such as the Department of Children and Families
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Education/Experience:

  • Clinician with an advanced degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other mental health related field
  • Experience with clinical consultation and training
  • Expertise with trauma-informed practices, social justice and equity work, and Muti-Tiered Systems of Supports
  • DESE certification as a School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker of Psychologist
  • DESE license as an administrator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to use Safety Care techniques to physically manage students who may be posing a risk to themselves or others.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with other staff members in order to exchange accurate information.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in this environment ranges from quiet to loud depending on the activity and the particular part of the day and location. The employee interacts with other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people.
