Overview

Waters Corporation is currently searching for a Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Detector Development Team in the Instrument Product Group. The Instrument Product Group is responsible for the development and support of Waters core LC Instrument Technologies such as Pump, AutoSampler, Detection, Column Management Platforms.

In this role, the individual will put strong technical engineering knowledge and experience into practice while developing analytical instrumentation in a team orientated and collaborative environment.

This individual will be an individual contributor and will have a lead and sometimes a mentoring role within the organization. The candidate will work in a multifaceted Engineering Environment utilizing many aspects of Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Design, Analytical Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Material Science, Automation, User Centered Interface Design, and System Engineering) as well as Optics (Optical Mounting, Stray Light, Ray Tracing). This role also requires work with Electrical, Software, Reliability, and Production Engineering to develop innovative products.

Responsibilities

• Develop opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical, fluidic, and thermal components and sub-systems from concept to new product introduction.
• Conduct detailed engineering analyses on components and sub-assemblies.
• Verify product requirements and define product and design specifications.
• Develop control logic for electromechanical, fluidic and thermal systems.
• Develop optical components and sub-systems including mirrors, lenses, windows, photodiodes and optical mounts.
• Design precision machined, plastic molded, and cast parts that are critical to function, user interface, or both while ensuring cost effectiveness and manufacturability.
• Adhere to regulations such as ISO 9001, EN 61010-1, and 21 CFR 820.
• Interface with Marketing, Reliability, New Product Introduction, Test Engineering, and Service throughout the Development Lifecycle.
• Lead component or part level development efforts
• Mentor engineering peers

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) – Required
• Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) – Desired
• Bachelor or Masters Degree in Optics or Opto-Mechanical Engineering – Desired
• Minimum of 8 Years of Experience in Related Field with BSME; Minimum of 5 Years of Experience in Related Field with MSME
• Proven Strong Analytical Skill and Hands on Skills
• Ability to work in a hands-on environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience with Zemax OpticStudio or equivalent ray tracing software
• Experience with Solid Works or Equivalent Tool
• Experience with ANSYS or Equivalent Tool
• Experience with Matlab / Python / or Equivalent Tool
