Washoe County School District is Hiring a Construction Project Manager 1 Near Reno, NV

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER ISummary DescriptionUnder general supervision, manages the procurement, construction, and closeout of capital improvement contract projects in the Washoe County School District. This position is distinguished as having project management responsibilities for multiple capital improvement projects including but not limited to renewal, modernization, IT construction, new construction, FFE, facility maintenance and remodel. Ensures all project/contractual objectives and obligations have been achieved to provide cost effective, timely, and quality capital improvement projects. Incumbent performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Project Manager II performs all of the duties and responsibilities as the Project Manager I, and additionally supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff, and interprets and implements Nevada Revised Statutes.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESePerforms project management for the Capital Projects and Planning Division, including contract administration, construction management, and inspection; Prepares project construction and bid documents, assists consulting architects, engineers and staff in the preparation of project construction and bid documents; coordinates all assigned projects with site administration and personnel; and develops bids and administers contracts with outside contractors
Assist with maintenance roofing repair program including roof inspection, project planning, leak detection, repairs, and inspection.
Performs project planning and construction management of various maintenance projects as assigned.
Conduct final project walk-through with appropriate persons to determine compliance with material quality, manufacturer, and District standards including quality assurance inspections prior to submitting a recommendation for approval of final payment.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Project Manager I
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field;
AND
  • One (1) year of experience working in a building design, maintenance and/or construction field performing project management responsibilities;
OR
  • Four (4) years working experience in a building design, maintenance and/or construction field, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a project manager.
Project Manager II
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field;
AND
  • Four (4) years of experience working in a building design, maintenance and/or construction field performing project management responsibilities;
OR
  • Six (6) years working experience in a building design, maintenance and/or construction field, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a project manager.
Knowledge of: Construction/management principles, practices, and procedures; principles of public works procurement, contract development, and contract administration/management; construction and modernization materials and techniques; computer applications related to the development of plans, specifications, construction, scheduling, work processing, database and spreadsheet management; and principles of effective management, staff supervision and administration.
Skill at: Working independently; managing multiple projects concurrently and meet predetermined deadlines; coordinating construction/renovation projects with building occupants; written and oral communications; reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and schedules; providing cost estimate information; coordinating action to accomplish work objectives while exercising necessary flexibility; thinking logically, clearly, and independently and communicating effectively verbally and in writing; working cooperatively and possessing excellent customer service skills working with employees, government entities, and utilities; recognizing, understanding, and interpreting, Nevada Revised Statutes, Nevada Administrative Codes, local, state, federal, and national codes, such as IBC, UBC, UMC, UPC, NFPA, OSHA, and ADA requirements of contractors, architects, engineers and the public; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and working with people, staff supervision and administration.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District. Professional registration; either engineering or architecture is desirable.
Special Requirements: Working hours may include evening and weekends as required. May be called upon on off-hours for school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, fires, snow removal, equipment failures, flooding, etc.
Physical Demands: This work may include physical exertion, such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects over 60 pounds, , stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching, crawling in restricted areas. Must have the ability to enter all areas of a facility including roofs, attics and crawl spaces.
Work Environment: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

Grade 27
Annual Salary: $75,873
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.
The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
Beginning July 1,2023: If you are enrolling in our health insurance plan and submit all proper documentation, you should know that there is no waiting period, your medical, dental, vision and life insurance will become effective on your first contracted work day.Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
