Job Title: Groundskeeper - Full-Time, Seasonal Position (Through End of September)

Job Description:

The Groundskeeper is primarily responsible for helping us maintain a well-kept cemetery. Most days will consist of picking up trash on the grounds, cutting grass with a riding lawn mower, and trimming grave markers with a weed-eater. Secondary responsibilities include assisting in burials, installing flat bronze markers, and performing other cemetery-related tasks required to keep the grounds in good condition. You will be under guidance/direction from experienced cemetery staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Use mechanized equipment including weed-eaters, riding lawnmowers, and more to perform cemetery related tasks
• Performs routine tasks in the set-up and completion of interments, including setting up tents, carpeting, and chairs, cleaning out graves, and assisting in lifting and placing caskets on lowering devices
• Over time we will train you to read cemetery maps to identify, locate, and mark-off grave spaces
• Installing, removing, and lifting headstones in Washington Park Cemetery with the use of specialized equipment and other cemeteries
• Assists in all other tasks as directed by supervisor

Work Schedule

During the spring and summer months, the cemetery requires daily weed-eating and trimming around flat bronze memorials. Typical Tuesday -Friday schedule is from 7am – 3:30pm, and on Saturdays from 7am – 4:30 pm, though Saturdays may run late or early depending on burial schedule. Weekdays will be spent maintaining and improving Washington Park Cemetery grounds and installing headstones in Washington Park Cemetery and other cemeteries, and Saturday will be spent preparing for and completing burial services.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Diligence and strong work ethic in a physically demanding environment. Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds and work outside in Florida summer weather conditions. Must be physically capable of performing the physical aspects of the job including but not limited to regular periods of physically bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, walking, sitting, and standing with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Punctuality is required. Position requires employee to be on-time and ready to work when scheduled and to have a reliable means of transportation to go to and from work
• Must be able to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner avoiding damage to property

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
