BASIC FUNCTIONUnder the direction of the Director of MOTF, or his/her designated Administrator, to operate a school bus or transportation vehicle along designated routes within an established time schedule, transport students to and from school and on special event trips, perform regular safety inspections of bus or transportation equipment, according to established procedures.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDrives a school bus or transportation vehicle along designated routes in accordance with an established time scheduleTransports students to and from school, athletic events, field trips, and special events as assigned, loads and unloads students safely at designated stops Stops traffic and escorts students across streets according to established proceduresInspects the bus and report mechanical defects or malfunctions, performs pre-trip inspections according to established proceduresMaintains the bus or transportation vehicle in a clean and orderly conditionMaintains order and discipline among passengers on at all timesIn accordance with policies, disciplines students and prepares related reports as assignedAdvises students in bus evacuation proceduresMonitors and enforces the district student bus pass programAdheres to policies and concerning transportation problems and concernsPrepares and maintains records and reports related to assigned activities including the daily transportation activity recordSweeps, cleans and refuels buses Administers first aid as requiredTransports students, including students with special learning needs and physical disabilities, as assigned, assist all students to board, sit in and leave the bus safely, assist student in wheelchairs by loading and securing chairs before departure and assuring student are safely fastened into their seats, utilize wheelchair tie downs, student securement devices and seat beltsMay collect funds for bus passesUtilizes two-way radios for bus to bus and bus to base communicationsDrives a vehicle to conduct workPerforms other duties as assignedJOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONSSkills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to: Drive a school bus and other transportation equipment safely and efficientlyOperate school vans with liftsMaintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus or other transportation equipmentPerform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacyKnowledge of: Safe driving practices and techniquesBasic first aid procedures and methodsSafety and maintenance requirements of bus and other pupil transportation equipmentApplicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulationsBasic record-keeping techniquesAbility to: Drive a school bus safely and efficientlyLearn and apply policies and procedures related to student discipline on busesObserve legal and defensive driving practicesMaintain bus in clean and proper working conditionEstablish and maintain positive and effective working relationshipsWork courteously and tactfully with co-workers, public and parentsPromotes team building and a positive work environmentReceive constructive criticism and modify work appropriatelyPrioritize and identify needs and solve problems independently as appropriateSuggest procedural improvements to superior as appropriateSkillfully handle difficult situations using good judgmentMaintain high level of professionalism in keeping the needs of customers a top priorityUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsAdminister first aidMaintain routine recordsCommunicate, both written and oral, using tact, patience and courtesyPerform bus child checks regularly as required Ensure students are not left unattended on the busConduct post trip inspection at the end of each shift
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform medium work, which involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that they can also do light and sedentary work. Describe in detail the job duties and responsibilities from ALL RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE which will QUALIFY you for this position. Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50/50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority. The eligibility list will be certified for a period of one year. It will be used to fill current substitute and future permanent openings. Current classified employees are eligible to hold an additional position based on the needs of the District and must be approved by the Human Resources Director. Bus Drivers working a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible for full-time employee benefits for entire family as listed under Health and Welfare Benefits. Life insurance is provided for employees working a minimum of 3 hours per day or 15 hours per week. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment, but failure to list all convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal.Physical Examination: Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.Tuberculosis Exam: Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.Immigration Reform and Control Act Of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
