We are accepting applications for Child Care Site Supervisor. At this time, we have 2 openings, one 6-hour (shift 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.) and one 8-hour (split shift 6:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.), Monday through Friday, 12-month employee in the Child Care Program.BASIC FUNCTION Under general supervision, the Child Care Site Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading their site’s child care team so they may provide meaningful learning assistance and recreational activities for TK-8 students in the Child Care Extended Day Program. The Site Supervisor is responsible for daily program operations and the maintenance and supervision of the program, including oversight of site budget management, staff evaluations, and program objectives.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Plan, design, and evaluate positive and supportive environments for TK-8 students in order to enhance and develop their mental, physical, and emotional capabilities • Inspect, review, and evaluate activity areas and equipment to ensure that appropriate standards of safety, sanitation, and organization are maintained • Lead and provide professional development for child care staff on maintaining appropriate standards of safety and student behavior• Evaluate the skills and fitness levels of students, and advise and counsel child care staff on the appropriateness of games, crafts, and special projects• Develop and review activity plans and instruct, train, and lead child care attendants in games, crafts, and team sports; this may also include activity setup • Review, approve, and monitor special events, which may include cookouts, fieldtrips, and other related activities • Maintain consistent communications with parents, students, and their school site(s); this may include regular emails, flyers, and parent conferences • Monitor and report on attendance and participation of students and staff • Perform a variety of personnel supervisory functions, including assisting in employee selection, staff evaluations, record management, and staff time keeping • Assist in budget planning and expenditure control activities for site(s) • Monitor and maintain inventory control for supplies, equipment, and materials • Plan, implement, and oversee a limited nutrition program for students• Maintain a variety of records regarding the child care program and evaluations of their site(s)’s child care activities • Administer routine first aid and seek assistance for serious illnesses or injuries; this may include contacting emergency service providers • May administer medication under specific District guidelines • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall program objectives JOB REQUIREMENTS-QUALIFICATIONS Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities Required: Knowledge of: • Child growth and development concepts • Child behavioral characteristics • Behavior management strategies and techniques • Organization and child care leadership methods and techniques • Employee motivation and supervision principles • Recreational games, crafts, and team sports, including equipment, materials, and supplies needed to support these activities • Records management and procedures • Technology to assist with office tasks and proceduresAbility to: • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding with a variety of students • Establish and maintain positive, collaborative, and professional working relationships with coworkers, students, families, and the public • Promote team building in a positive and productive work environment • Effectively plan, organize, and lead child care attendants in games, crafts, and special projects • Effectively receive and deliver communication in oral and written formats • Identify and prioritize needs in order to solve problems independently • Prioritize work assignments, policy changes, and new procedures • Receive constructive feedback and modify work and behaviors appropriately • Suggest improvements to the Director, as appropriate • Address difficult situations using good judgment • Maintain records and prepare accurate reports
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform medium work, which involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations – Section 404.1567 “Physical Exertion Requirements”). The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must be able to perform to carry out essential job functions: • Function effectively in classroom and outside play environments, engaged in work of a moderately active nature• Stand and walk for extended periods of time (greater than 1 hour)• Bend down at child’s level to assist with changing clothes when needed • Sit on the floor and assist children during rest time. Requires the ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull and move light weight teaching aids and supplies • Sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, multimedia, and other office equipment • Engage in playful activities with children (pushing on swings, siting on floor to play in classroom centers, or assisting children while learning or riding tricycles) • Sufficient hearing and speaking skills to project voice and communicate with staff and students in classroom settings and in one on-one conversations • Visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, observe students perform assignments, and observe moving objects and events Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS: An employment application and job description can be obtained either ONLINE at or at the District Office. Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50/50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority. The eligibility list will be certified for a period of six months. It will be used to fill current substitute and future permanent openings. BENEFITS: Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3.5 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions. Tuberculosis Exam: Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.
