Walla Walla Community College is Hiring a Student Success Coordinator Near Walla Walla, WA

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Student Success Coordinator position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description: 

The Student Success Coordinator will work closely with Student Communications and act as a liaison between Outreach and the Student Success Center. The position will be primarily responsible for supporting communications and the follow-up with future Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) students as they navigate the key steps in the process between application and registration. The Student Success Coordinator will be responsible for improving entry services and communications to better support future WWCC students through the necessary steps to enrollment and ultimately increase enrollment. 
 
This position is supported by a Department of Education Title III grant for approximately five years. The college intends to institutionalize this position at the end of the grant’s term. This Federal Title III grant project is intended to help WWCC improve student access, persistence and credential attainment rates through a variety of strategies.


Essential Functions: 

  • Overall identification and development of effective communication, support services, and enrollment processes to increase retention of students from application to enrollment, with a focus on closing equity gap
  • Provide support in the operation of student communication systems related to onboarding students 
  • Develop targeted and supportive communication for students who feel overwhelmed by the onboarding process, creating a positive, student-centered experience as they move from Outreach through Orientation to Advising and Registration
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the work, report outcomes, and identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with Information Technology, Institutional Research & Effectiveness, Business Systems Analysts, and Enrollment Strategies to identify data points necessary to monitor student progress within entry pipelines
  • Leverage data and identify problematic processes, and implement solutions to resolve those problems 
  • Provide analytic updates for WWCC leaders
  • Establish and maintain strong and positive partnerships across campus, including college departments such as Outreach, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Success Center and Student Financial Services, to ensure students enrollment needs are being met within a timely manner 
  • Support new students (and their families) as they navigate becoming a student at WWCC
  • Work closely with Student Success Center, Advisors and Navigators in following up with students who drop out of the enrollment pipeline and need extra nudging and support to re-enter the process to reach enrollment
  • Establish coaching as the primary way in which student services professionals engage with students moving through the entry pipeline; providing training and support as needed
  • Attend meetings on and off campus, as scheduled, in state/overnight travel may be required 
  • Effectively communicate degree and program offerings, financial aid and scholarship opportunities and other campus and community resources
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners
  • Utilize computerized student and program tracking systems
  • Leverage cross-cultural experiences to assist others with bilingual/bicultural needs
  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities
  • Strong proficiency in leveraging information systems to inform decision making and strategic action 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Time management and ability to manage competing priorities

Required Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience and training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job may be considered by the college. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, student services or related field
  • Two years’ experience in higher education support service program, advising or coaching experience, with demonstrated ability to carry out projects and collaborate with work teams
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience using workplace technologies (Microsoft Office and database programs)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (written/oral) skills

  • Master’s degree in Adult Learning/Education
  • Experience in Student Services
  • Experience in case management and coaching in higher education
  • Understanding of trauma informed practice
  • Knowledge of human and/or student development theory and practice
  • Workshop, seminar, presentation, facilitator, or teaching experience
  • Evidence of ability to work under pressure, prioritize competing demands, and be flexible.

This is a full-time overtime eligible professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.

Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments. This position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. This position requires the capability to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without the assistance of hands trucks or dollies. Attend meetings on and off campus, as scheduled, in state/overnight travel may be required. 
 
Compensation: 

Annual salary range for initial placement based on the exempt salary schedule: $60,638-68,606. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.This position will remain open until filled.
