Columbia Basin College (WA) is Hiring a Student Employee (Academic Success Center Peer Mentor) Near Pasco, WA

Description

On-Campus employment opportunities at Columbia Basin College (CBC) are available. Students who believe the experience can be a valuable part of their education are encouraged to apply, with some positions requiring student work study funding for eligibility. This announcement will be used to develop a pool of applicants for peer mentor student employment positions for the 2024-2025 academic year (FALL, WINTER, SPRING). Student workers will be responsible for developing and maintaining mentor-mentee relationships

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive source of support to help first-year students adjust to college;
  • Maintain knowledge of campus to be a resource for students to help them identify and use appropriate campus services;
  • Work with students to develop a mentoring plan that addresses their individual needs;
  • Prepare for mentoring sessions based on above plan, and topics needed as discussed with the mentee;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with and provide assistance and support as outlined in program policies and procedures;
  • Participate in on boarding training before the start of fall quarter, anticipated at the end of August; as well as continued training throughout the program;
  • Assist with developing study strategies;
  • Assess progress throughout the mentor-mentee relationship;
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled for fall quarter at Columbia Basin College;
  • Completed at least two quarters at CBC, including good academic and student conduct standing;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain personal studies and support others in their studies;
  • Willingness to learn and demonstrate competence when sharing information and resources;
  • Good communication, computer, and customer service skills;
  • Commit to being a peer mentor through the fall, winter, and spring quarters; and
  • Be available morning, afternoons, and some evenings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual/bi literate in Spanish and English
    PROCESS NOTE: Prior to a new hire, a background check including a criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
