Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania is Hiring a Director of Development Near Allentown, PA

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The employee in this classification shall report to the Chief of Staff. The responsibilities are professional in function. The Senior Director will work directly with the President, Chief of Staff and the Development and Communications team in planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy. The employee will be responsible for obtaining funds by promoting the organization's interest and benefits to donors; and will work with corporations, businesses, foundations, government agencies, and individuals to secure support via grants, major gifts and planned giving. In the first year of employment, the position will focus on (1) Building and establishing agency-wide processes and procedures around giving and gifts, including acknowledgment, tracking, and reporting to ensure timely recognition and compliance with all funders, donors, and for annual audits; (2) Developing processes and establishing procedures to maintain and grow grant funding, including research of funding opportunities, cultivation with foundations, tracking, monitoring, and writing of proposals and reports; (3) Establishing an annual method to solicit major gifts; and (4) Integrate and continue current private foundation strategies in house rather than through an external group, aimed at retaining $400,000 with growth measures between 5-10% annually. annually via private foundation sources.

Scope of duties:

1. Demonstrate knowledge and professionalism while interacting with clients, team members, partner agencies, and the greater community.

2. Partner with the executive team to lead and develop a diversified fund development strategic plan, aimed at fully funding current services, and growing services aligned to the organization’s and targeted area’s vision.

3. Partner with the organization’s leadership team to develop realistic fundraising goals at the beginning of each fiscal year, and keep the team centered on achieving goals and making mid-course corrections as needed.

4. Direct, develop, coordinate and implement planned giving strategies, including laying the groundwork with past and potential donors.

5. Direct, develop, coordinate, and implement an individual donor strategy aimed at building a long term healthy and thriving individual donor program.

6. If identified as an important strategy, lead special event planning with appropriate teams/areas in order to strengthen individual and planned giving.

7. Serve as the lead in writing and preparing grant proposals; partner with leadership team to develop concepts well aligned to the mission and vision of the organization and program area.

8. Strategize and lead donor prospecting, identification, and cultivation; bring in other members of VOAPA (executive leadership, board, team), as appropriate for various prospecting opportunities.

9. Collaborate with the organization’s leadership and Development and Communications team in the strategic development of communications, marketing, promotional literature and presentation materials.

10. Coordinate with program managers to secure resources and in-kind donations targeted to program objectives and needs.

11. Partner with VOAPA’s leadership team to grow the organization’s capacity to raise funds through various strategies, including but not limited to, special events, direct mail, fee for service, grants and contracts.

12. Possess general knowledge of agency Programs and Services.

13. Represent VOAPA at funder and community-based meetings as assigned.

14. Promote awareness and understanding of VOAPA’s mission through networking and presentations to community groups, religious organizations, churches, volunteer groups, schools, corporations, etc.

15. Provide regular communication with the organization

17. Show demonstrated ability to interact and treat people with respect and dignity regardless of ability, race, ethnic background, gender, or socioeconomic background.

18. Clock time worked in and out and approve your own time prior to supervisor review

19. Perform other duties as assigned.

ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands.

2. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.

3. Ability to climb stairs and walk perimeter of facility.

4. Ability to talk and hear.

5. Ability to drive and walk through all program sites.

6. Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and

7. Ability to see 20 feet.

8. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

CREDENTIALS/ABILITIES:

The Employee in this position must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years’ experience in non-profit fundraising, or equivalent experience in sales and marketing. The employee must possess a proven track record of positive growth with meeting fundraising goals successfully with other organizations. The employee must be a self-starter with ability to work independently, exceptional verbal and writing skills, working knowledge of computer, ability to handle projects in a timely and efficient manner. Employee must maintain good working relationship with co-workers and other program staff; work with and assist a wide range of individuals in a variety of situations. Employee must possess a valid driver's license and perosnal vehicle insurance. The employee must possess a strong ability to make immediate decisions when faced with crisis or unusual situations. The employee must have a working knowledge of computer software, specifically Microsoft Office; including Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
