Volunteers of America North Louisiana is a faith-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to provide opportunity, promote dignity, and inspire change in all who find their way to us. As a church without walls, we do this through personalized housing, health, and human services that benefit children and families, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and senior adults.
Founded in 1896 by social reformers Ballington and Maud Booth, Volunteers of America began as a movement of “volunteers” who were committed and sought to "reach and uplift" the American people. Volunteers of America North Louisiana began in Shreveport in 1935 with the opening of a shelter for women and children. Leading with our long-standing reputation and brand, the agency has grown to operate 40 programs, which tackle our communities’ most pressing issues and integrate our deep compassion with highly effective programs.

POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant I- Travis
DIVISION: LightHouse
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
POSITION TYPE: Part-time
HOURS: Monday-Thursday, 2:00 pm-5:30 pm during the school year program. 8:30 am-2:30 pm during the summer program.
HOURLY Rate: Starts @ $10.00 an hour.
MISSION: The Program Assistant I assists program participants/students in understanding academic content and provides them with strategies so they may succeed in school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Build and maintain a healthy relationship with youth in LightHouse program.
2. Assist students and program staff in all academic and operational functions of the LightHouse.
3. Assist Coordinator with classroom management and the 3rd meal.
4. Leads small work groups and assists with homework completion.
5. Assist students with subject content according to individual strengths in conjunction with BPSB/CPSB academic components.
6. Assist students with study strategies and techniques to increase fluency and skills.
7. Observe confidentiality at all times.
8. Assist with transporting LightHouse students to program and home when needed.
9. Assist with light housekeeping duties.
10. Complete all other duties assigned by Coordinator.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The position of Program Assistant I requires a high school diploma. Enrollment in a degree program and/or earned college credit hours preferred.
