We are seeking a motivated and results-driven part-time Business Development and Marketing Specialist to join our team at Viva Coffee Roasters. At Viva, we are a specialty coffee roaster with passion for quality, community, and diversity. Our vision is to be the best Micro-Roastery in Cincinnati that goes beyond the cup.

Job Summary:

As a Business Development and Marketing Specialist, you will be contributing to the success of Viva Coffee Roasters by growing and expanding our customer base, grow our wholesale portfolio, and develop marketing strategies and materials aligned with the operational capabilities and mission of the roastery. In addition, you will be supporting operational tasks at our Micro Roastery and Coffee Shop.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Entrepreneurship, or Supply Chain
  • Prior business development and sales experience is necessary (min 1 year)
  • Experience in hospitality, retail, and/or customer service experience (min 2 years)
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing, website management, content management systems, and sales tracking systems and analytics.
  • High proficiency in marketing content software including Adobe, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva and others
  • Prior experience with event planning, scheduling, and logistics execution
  • Analytical skills to track and measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly. Not only digitally, but hands on creativity and innovation to develop effective marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Adequate writing and verbal communication skills to create compelling business development and marketing content.
  • Strong ability to multi-task with high attention to detail
  • Available to work flexible hours, including mornings, weekends, holidays, and events.
  • Ability to read and speak English proficiently.
  • A driver's license must be valid with a reliable means of transportation to events, work assignments, and logistics support

Preferred Qualifications…

  • Demonstrated professional experience in coffee at a commercial or industry level
  • Graduate student in Marketing, Business or Entrepreneurship
  • 2 years of coffee shop, coffee retail, or coffee sales experience
  • 2 years of coffee specific marketing and sales experience
  • Coffee Roasting or Coffee Cupping/Tasting Experience.
  • Multi-lingual or Spanish speaker.
  • Experience living overseas.
  • Passion for Latin American culture

Detailed Responsibilities and Duties:

Business Development:

  • Research and identify potential customers that could benefit from the Viva products.
  • Develop and manage presentation materials that will be used for initial contact with prospective customers.
  • Master the story, mission, vision, core competencies, and product knowledge of Viva to effectively share the value of our brand and benefits for the prospective customers.
  • Develop outstanding relationships that result in wholesale contracts or events with a “win-win” approach. Manage and nurture relationships with the outmost care and passion.
  • Actively manage each account, complete sales trend analysis, identify gaps, and establish actions for constantly enhancing value to our customers.
  • Provide an exceptional customer experience by anticipating customer needs and wants and providing a journey beyond the cup.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a drive to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Perform competitive and gap analysis of the Viva brand in terms of wholesale distribution and product and service offerings.
  • Has a “problem-solving” rather than a “problem-creation” mindset. Thinks creatively on how to best solve a problem given the constraints or ambiguity.
  • Respond to orders, questions, concerns, and complaints in a polite, efficient, and quick manner with a “customer first” mindset.

Marketing Strategy:

  • Develops and leads the marketing strategy for Viva Coffee Roasters by collaborating with the Roasting, Barista, and Product Development teams.
  • Develops marketing and sales content, including social media content and assets such as videos, images, flyers, and banners to promote Viva Coffee Roasters.
  • Research and identify relevant events, trade shows, and expos where Viva can participate to reach new audiences and promote its products.
  • Leads, plans, and executes sales and marketing events as needed. This includes registering for, preparing, and coordinating resources for festivals, seminars, workshops, private customer events, and tasting sessions.
  • Develop a content calendar to ensure consistent and engaging posts that showcase the cafe's products, ambiance, and special offers.
  • Coordinate logistics for attending events, including booth setup, signage, promotional materials, and staffing.
  • Maintain Viva’s main website including updating content and refreshing images and marketing content. Ensure that main online platforms are updated with Viva content and information including Google, Bing, Yelp, and Instagram
  • Engage with event attendees, provide samples or tastings of the cafe's offerings, and distribute promotional materials to generate interest and drive traffic to the cafe.
  • Follow up with leads and contacts obtained at events to nurture relationships and encourage repeat visits to the roastery.

Roastery and Coffee Shop Support

  • Develops detailed understanding of all roasted bean profiles, including their origin, story, roasting profile, flavor profile, and matching the customer’s needs.
  • Develops strong coffee tasting and cupping skills to enhance business development capabilities.
  • Develops strong understanding of the operations and products of the coffee shop/bar and use this knowledge for an enhanced business development journey.
  • Provides constant and timely feedback based on customer feedback and/or recommendations for improvement.
  • Participates in scheduled cupping sessions or roasting events as needed for the continued development and improvement of the roasting operations and quality.
  • Calls out any abnormality and stops any processes to address the issues immediately.
  • Keeps associate safety and security and food safety as the top priority for the shop.
  • Works closely with the master roaster to support roasting operations as needed.

General Responsibilities:

  • Strives to increase coffee knowledge and skills including processing, roasting, cupping, and brewing.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality without exception.
  • Provide administrative support to the operations, roastery, and coffee shop teams as needed.
  • Handle customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Utilizes MS Suite to create word documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as required.
  • Transcribe meeting notes and other audio recordings as needed.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings and appointments with vendors, contractors, customers, or partners.
  • Maintain office and marketing supplies inventory and place orders as necessary.
