Job Description
Job Title: Director of Dietary
Reports To: Administrator
Status: Exempt Classification: Full Time
Positions Summary:
The Director of Food Services coordinates all Food Service functions and has oversight responsibility for all Food Services staff. This position effectively manages all areas of production and nutritional care of residents in accordance with Maryland Department of Health standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assure the preparation and delivery of food to residents fully meets the needs of each resident.
• Assures a safe and sanitary environment through enforcement of proper housekeeping safety and infection control procedures.
• Monitors Dietary Departments proper functioning to ensure quality service.
• Records department costs, controls inventory within budgetary standards and purchases food supplies and equipment required. • Recruits, trains and evaluates staff to assure high quality job performance.
• Assures all equipment is clean, maintained and updated.
• Maintains records of meal counts and production.
• Develops an employee work schedule that assures standards will be met and assures all required documentation is timely and complete.
• Participates in facility and resident council meetings and cooperates with other departments to provide for resident’s quality of life.
• Performs all tasks and duties in an efficient and safe manner.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and facility needs.
• Represents Vita Healthcare in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, personal comfort and privacy of others.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree and experience in health care preferred. Courses in food management, nutrition, diet planning, purchasing, inventory control and personnel management preferred. Supervisory experience preferred with knowledge of principles of cost accounting, record keeping and purchasing procedures.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION
Qualified as Dietary Supervisor by the State of Maryland.
